As Fall Camps begin… be very mindful of your rep count. Quality over quantity always. Work smart! Spend extra time doing drill work (that doesn’t involve ball contact) & film study. This is the best way to stay strong and healthy for the entire season. #TeamSailer

Advice: Never get too high, Never get too low in recruiting. If a coach tells you that you are their #1, or Top 5, or Top 3… you are probably in their Top 20. If a coach doesn’t respond or speak with you directly after a camp. that doesn’t mean that they have zero interest.

It is that time of year when HS Kickers get frustrated with their coach, getting attempts & poor operation. Understand that you are actually in the majority, not minority. HS stats can definitely help you, but they won’t necessarily hurt you. College coaches understand.

Reminder… as we approach the midway point of the high school season, getting rest is the key to future health and success. If game day is Friday, try not to kick on Thursday & Sunday. Focus on non ball drill work and stretching. You’ll feel strong & healthy come playoff time.

Never get too high & never get too low in recruiting. Examples… High: You get a hand written letter. Yes, that’s a great sign, but they also sent that same letter to 100 other Kickers. Low: Coaches won’t respond to your DM’s. You feel rejected, but know they are still looking!

Class of 2026, as the season comes to an end, and you begin to prepare for camp season and college tryouts, keep this in mind. College coaches will expect you to kick field goals off the ground. If you choose to use a tee at their camp, they won’t take your evaluation seriously.

Tough advice… A D1 Kicking Camp Invitation doesn’t necessarily mean that the program is interested in recruiting you. If you are NOT a D1 Level Kicker / Punter, attending multiple D1 Camps this summer wouldn’t be time well spent. Be honest with yourself and make smart choices.

Junior Days are coming up! These are a great opportunity to get on campus, build relationships with college coaches and begin your decision making process. Be smart about the schools you choose to visit. Make sure that you are qualified both academically and athletically.

After attending a college camp, be sure to follow up with any and all coaches that you met while on campus. A simple text or DM expressing your thanks and interest in the program goes a long way. Coaches will remember when making final decisions down the road.

Class of 2024: Something to think about when making your final college decision… I would not recommend choosing a school based mostly on the coach. The odds are slim that the coaching staff will stay intact during your time in school. Make your decision based on all factors!

When meeting a college coach… Three small pieces of advice: 1). Carry yourself with a quiet confidence, NOT cockiness. 2). Stand in front of your parents, not behind them. 3.) Come prepared with 2-3 questions. This shows them that you have a genuine interest in their program.

Advice: Have a friend count the number of Kicks/Punts you take at your first game. That is from the first rep in warmups all the way through the last kick of the game. You’ll be shocked at how high the number is. Take note and make wise adjustments accordingly.
