One of the great vertebrate morphologists working, Dean talks about mineralization in giant placoid scales (bucklers) in cartilaginous fishes. Bucklers anchored by Sharpey's fibers and muscle. Denticles cusp looks normal, the base is very unusual. #ICVM2023
