The Grapevine remains closed at this time. There is no estimated time for how long the closure will be in place. Caltrans District 7 is working hard on clearing the snow and ice from the roadway.
The Grapevine is now open with CHP units from the Fort Tejon and Newhall areas conducting escorts up and over the Grapevine. The roadway is still wet and slick, so stay in line and follow behind traffic at a safe distance. Please don’t drive reckless by speeding.

The storm is hitting the Grapevine with rain mixed with snow. I cannot stress enough the importance to slow down and not speed in these conditions. Speeding plus wet roadway can lead to hydroplaning and crashing. Give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination safely.

Old Moodini was performing his "disappearing act" on the freeway this morning . Fort Tejon CHP Officers have been looking for him for about a year now. During previous calls he had seemed to just disappear into thin air. This time we caught him (after about a two hour chase.)
The Grapevine is closed in both directions at this time. Snow is continuing to fall on the Grapevine with ice building up on the roadway making it unsafe for motorists. We do not know how long this closure will be in place. We will update as new information becomes available.
We are still clearing stuck vehicles and the snow is still falling. We will provide an update when something changes. We do not have an estimated time of reopening. We will post and tweet when we do. SR-58 is open but we recommend US-101 as the preferred detour.

At 2:50pm CHP Fort Tejon Area officers responded to this solo vehicle rollover crash. The driver of the semi sustained minor to moderate injuries. Use the escape ramps if necessary. The slow lane will be closed for an unknown duration for cleanup. Slow down and drive safe.
90% of the freeway is de-iced and sanded. We are waiting for the rest to melt. Thankfully, the sun is shining and temperatures are reaching the low 30s. We hope to open it in a couple of hours if all goes well.
