Currently creating mythological-fantasy graphic novels inspired by Native American histories, myths, and philosophies. Writer, artist, and worldbuilder.
Another older one that I should definitely redraw. Not my own character, but instead a real historical figure: Buffalo road calf woman (alternatively “brave woman”)! The Cheyenne native who killed Custer during the battle of little big horn!
I need to redraw this since it’s pretty old now, but here’s what I can only describe as a “Zuni Pharaoh”. Ancient American desert civilizations are unfairly overlooked in fantasy.
In the process of designing Bold Horse’s brothers. Bold horse on the left and one of his brothers on the right (unnamed atm). Both have such great face cards.
5 new characters and their proto-designs. They’re pretty expressionless and without shading here because I’m desperately trying to avoid same face syndrome. I’ll probs change the 3rd guys hair (but I’m keeping the fetlock)!
Not sure if this is something ppl would be interested in, but when I have art-block I create sheets for the animals that are in my ancient American inspired world called “Sweetgrass”.
Here’s the biggest terrestrial animal!
study on the shape language of prairie architecture for my fantasy project.
Trying my best to embrace the triangle/pyramid look because the only iconic piece of prairie architecture is honestly the tipi. Some nods to Mesoamerica/cahokia and Tibet ofc!

If I ever redraw him I’ll try and keep in mind my influences to do something like that! It was awhile ago since I drew that specific piece but I remember using mostly intuition directly inspired by Zuni jewelry and the Zuni “Sun face.”
note: iggaaks as far as I’m aware are only documented to exist within the Inuit populations. I haven’t heard of southwestern groups having an equivalent. but a type of eyewear to block the suns intensity would be so helpful so I’ll probs create a desert equivalent at some point.

I’m actually not sure yet myself! But different blue pigments are a very sacred and “common” color seen within this nation, and so I’ll probably have to invent a type of flower that is numerous in their territories.

This is so fascinating! The idea of “seven worlds” seems to be deeply engrained in human psychology since it shows up in mythic archetypes so frequently. Is there an accurate source that talks about the 7 worlds as the woodland peoples depict and understand them?
