It was great to have Minister for Emergency Services Vicki Ward and John Mullahy MP at CFA HQ this morning, and even better to see them getting involved and trying out our state of the art virtual reality training system.

It has been one mammoth team effort to have the fires burning in The Grampians and Little Desert contained. Photos from volunteer Noah Chislett of Eaglehawk CFA said he was more than happy to assist fellow firefighters when asked, as they'd been battling these fires for weeks.

Was a pleasure to join Commissioner Freeman at FRV Dandenong Fire Station, for the FRV long service and good conduct awards. Recognition for our career fire fighters who alongside CFA Brigades do so much good for Victorian communities. Congratulations to all recipients. đź‘Ź

On this day 16 years ago 173 Victorians died from devastating bushfires under the most horrendous weather conditions. Today we stop, remember, and think of the family and friends left behind.

Heatwave conditions will impact the state from this weekend. Now is not the time to be complacent - review your bushfire plan, make sure your family knows what to do in an emergency and most importantly remember that leaving early is the safest option.

Tomorrow is going to be a hot one folks. Temperatures in high 30s to 45 across the state. Hot northwesterly winds return with low humidity. Dry lightning on dawn will add a bit of spice to the recipe for an extreme fire day. 5 areas in Total Fire Ban.

On this day in 1985, more than 100 fires ignited across the state as temperatures over 40 degrees and strong winds caused extreme bushfire conditions. Today, we reflect on those who lost their lives and communities who were impacted in these fires on this day 40 years ago.

During a bushfire, embers will reach your home long before the flames do. Ember attacks are the most common way that houses catch fire. This short animation explains what embers are and how they are able to travel long distances and start new fires.
