Our fourth-year residents, Carly Ulrich, DO, married Emergency Medicine physician, Collin Smith, DO, on Nov. 4, 2023, at the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, WV. Collin and Carly met at CAMC four years ago while completing their training in their respective programs.

Urology would like to congratulate Jordan Burns, DO and Clayton Davis, DO! They have accomplished great things during their time in our program. We wish them the best on their future careers!
This case details a patient without other significant medical history who presented with acute onset unilateral scrotal swelling. Surgical repair was accomplished in unprecedented fashion via robotic laparoscopic assisted inguinal hernia repair with mesh and right nephropexy.
An interesting clinical case of a patient with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease with end-stage renal disease and bothersome bilateral flank pain. They underwent bilateral nephrectomy with the transplant team, which our residents were able to be a part of.
Being a resident at Charleston Area Medical Center means becoming part of a well-respected team at an academic medical center that encourages innovation. This is what our PGL 3 resident, Matthew DeSanto, MD, had to say about CAMC and his residency in Urology.

Charleston is West Virginia's capital, known for its magnificent gold-domed capitol building. It's a relatively small capital city but has plenty of restaurants and activities, especially downtown.
Another great year with exceptional individuals! We are proud of all this year's accomplishments and can't wait to see where the Urology Residency program will go in 2024!

A patient had worsening penile pain and swelling after using intracavernosal injections. The MRI of the pelvis demonstrates a roughly 5x5 cm penile abscess with invasion into the L corporal body wrapping around the urethra. The patient required a penile incision and drainage.

July 14 to July 16 is the 3rd Annual West Virginia Urologic Association Meeting at Stonewall Resort in West Virginia! There are variety of great presentations, vendors and activities such as the golf outing.
The ACGME revised the Common Program Requirements for all programs to address well-being more comprehensively. The requirements emphasize that psychological, emotional and physical well-being are critical in the development of a competent, caring and resilient physician.
Our residents Jared Zopp, DO, and Matthew DeSanto, MD, were published in The Journal of Urology Case Reports for a case report regarding a rare clinical entity of metastatic melanoma to the proximal ureter.
The urology program participates in journal club twice a month and recently discussed the results and potential impact of journal articles that have received attention since publishing.
