Nvidia apparrently wasn't happy with their high end cards suffering VRM failures so now they expanded their shitty design practices to the power connector.
The more I probe the 3090 the more confused and horrified I am by the absolutely abomination that is the Vcore VRM. At this point I'm not surprised by 3090s dying I'm surprised by them being able to turn on in the first place.
Ryzen 7000. Running DDR5-8000. On a sub 300USD 8 layer daisy chain motherboard. This new BIOS is completely insanen. I might get DDR5-8000 stable on Ryzen before I ever get it stable on intel LOL.
My rules of thumb for why hardware dies:
GPUs die all the time for no reason. High end GPUs more so.
Motherboards also diefor no reason just less often
CPUs do not die unless attacked by a motherboard
RAM doesn't die unless physically abused
Ok so this is something that's been bothering me for a while. Why do so many CPU cooler mounts require so much spring compression during installation. Just make the screws longer than the springs FFS.
So apparently AMD hates overclocking so much that they decided to lock the power play tables on RX 7000. I guess my RTX 2080 will probably get replaced with another Nvidia GPU.
the future of the Radeon 7000 series line up:
RX 7900 XTX
RX 7900 XT
RX 7900 GRE
RX 7900 GR
RX 7900 BFG
RX 7900 BF
RX 7600.
Galaxy brain AMD: Maybe if we call everything a 7900 the cards will sell better.
I really don't care what Nvidia calls their GPUs as long as the performance per dollar makes sense and the naming isn't misleading. Having 2 very different 4080s is a problem. A 900USD 4070 or 4060 is fine as long as it's significantly faster than a 3080/6900XT
Why is it that people talking in terms of FPS instead of %. getting 20FPS more where you're at 20FPS is a performance increase 100%. 20FPS when you're at a 1000FPS is 2%. STOP TALKING ABOUT PERFORMANCE UPLIFT IN FPS.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOJHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I just did my first successful VRAM chip reball repair. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO uwu OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Back in the day you could get GPUs like the GTX 680 and 670 with 2x VRAM. Nvidia eventually stopped AIBs from doing that. I wonder why that would be....
So apparently Diablo 4 is now NewWorlding 3080Tis. Imagine if the cheapest high-end Nvidia GPUs shipped with properly implemented Over Current Protection(or better VRMs). Maybe they would stop dying to random games.
Running out of VRAM causes stuttering because even PCI-e 4.0 x16 only has ~32GB/s of bandwidth. The VRAM on an RTX 3050 has ~200GB/s. The RTX 4070Ti has 500GB/s of memory bandwidth. If whatever the GPU is trying to render isn't in the VRAM it's gonna take forever.
I hate the silicon lottery. I hate the silicon lottery. I hate the silicon lottery. I hate the silicon lottery. I hate the silicon lottery. I hate the silicon lottery. I hate the silicon lottery. I hate the silicon lottery. I hate the silicon lottery.
AFAIK this card is actually smaller than most 4090s.
Yet it somehow manages to fit 4 8pins. Meanwhile Nvidia had to come up with a new shittier power connector because 4x8 pins would be too "ugly" or something.
Oh I finally found it. The magical trick to fixing intel memory stability problems. It's called buying a better CPU. Does DDR5-7600 error out and cause BSODs on your CPU? No problem just keep buying CPUs until it stops erroring out.
Why yes this 12 pin connector can totally handle the same power as 3/4 PCI-e 8 pins. Brought to you by the same people who designed a memory VRM that has issues with the INDUCTORS burning up.
Ryzen 7000X3D might be even more of a performance jump than 5000X3D because the infinity fabric on 7000 is kinda awful. Also because the 4090 is way faster than the 3090.
The 7800X3D is literally reviving games for me by making things that would previously slow the game down to a crawl playable. The TNT x500 no longer freezes minecraft for several seconds.
Is people's problem with the 4070Ti that they can't upgrade to it from the a 3070/3070Ti/3080/3080Ti? because upgrading every single generation IMO isn't normal.
Could someone explain to me why so many people don't seem to understand that all you need to kill performance(or get tons of texture/asset pop in) on an 8GB GPU is just 9-10GB of data. Like yes console games can't have 16GB of texture data. But they can have 9GB+ and 9 > 8.
I've figured out part of why I don't find modern hardware releases very exciting. Especially GPUs. I don't find modern AAA game releases exciting. Most of my steam wishlist is old games and indie games.
You know these days I find it kinda hard to care about high end GPU launches. Mostly because most of the games I play would run on a toaster and those that don't are CPU bottlenecked. The 75Hz 1080p ultrawide with a dying backlight probably doesn't help.
So it just occured to me that people totally misunderstood my tweet about buying a 13900KS. I'm not buying a 13900KS instead of a 7800X3D. I'm buying the 13900KS first.
Some Ryzen 7000 package layout/orientation guidelines. I've mostly made this so I stop using the 7800X3D on my desk to compare against pictures of broken CPUs.
DLSS is a stupid name for upscaling. Super sampling AFAIK is the act of using more samples per pixel not fewer samples per pixel. Which is why 2x SSAA is just rendering at 4x resolution and then downscaling. DLSS is the oposite. Render at low res and use ML to upscale
Modern websites are the bane of my existence. WHY THE FUCK IS EVERYTHING ANIMATED I JUST WANT TO READ SOME FUCKING TEXT STOP AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
man the infinity fabric on Ryzen 7000 is such a bottleneck. The 7600X runs mem test at basically the same speed as the 7950X does and both are way slower than intel CPUs at the similar RAM speeds.
I'd say the main reason to get a 3090Ti instead of a 3090 is that the 3090Ti isn't built with spare parts from budget motherboards and left over GTX 10xx series VRM controllers.
