I'm going to go out on a limb and say 90% of problems that foreigners have in Japan are due to lack of Japanese language skills. Not because you're loud, not because you have extreme body odour, not because you didn't bow low enough.

Japan is not that hot in summer. Most people live in air con 24/7 such as on every train and bus, inside every single shop, inside your apartment unless life is too hard for you.

Here's a harsh reality, moved the family back to Japan for a better life as cost of living in Australia is too much. After 8 months of work, 3 of my wife's colleagues quit, she now has to take work home after a 10 hour shift, works about 5 hours at home too.

Friends from Australia bought a house in Shiga. She's Japanese he's Australian. House was about AU$70k, 4 bedroom, shed, pizza oven. No direct neighbours & previous owners left everything including futons. Didn't need any renovations but do need a car, 30 mins walk to station

In my opinion people are still obsessed in Japan but I feel they're more subtle with their display of success and perhaps don't rub it in as much. For example my wealthy friends will pay for dinner before I get the chance but they don't want praise for it.

Our rent in Osaka is about ¥110,000 a month for a 3 bedroom apartment. It's slightly higher than what you can find because it's been renovated just before moving in. Could pay ¥80,000 to ¥90,000 for a similar sized apartment. No car park but has bike parking.

For example, when in Japan don't use ¥ yen/en. Always use $ dollars for every price.
