In 1833, Britain used 40% of its national budget to buy freedom for all slaves in the Empire. Britain borrowed such a large sum of money for the Abolition Act that it wasn’t paid off until 2015. That means living British citizens helped pay for the ending of the slave trade. 🇬🇧

Zulu is a 1964 British film depicting the Battle of Rorke's Drift between the British Army & the Zulus on 22/23 Jan 1879, during the Anglo-Zulu War. It shows how 150 British soldiers, 30 of whom were sick & wounded patients, successfully held off a force of 4,000 Zulu warriors 🇬🇧

The Royal Navy established the West Africa Squadron in 1808 to patrol the coast of West Africa, and between 1808 and 1860 they seized approximately 1,600 slave ships and freed 150,000 Africans who were aboard. Most of the ships captured were headed to South America. 🇬🇧
