Andrea Brillantes getting hate for this without the full context is just plain unfair, especially since the Inquirer only shared part of it. In a recent interview, she opened up about the “curse” of pretty privilege and how being considered pretty hasn’t always been a blessing for her. Growing up, Blythe believed that being beautiful would make people treat her kindly, but that wasn’t her experience at all. In grade school, she was bullied and left without friends, which made her think she wasn’t pretty because no one wanted to be around her. It was her mom who explained that the bullying happened because she was pretty—that people sometimes act out of jealousy. That’s when she realized that beauty comes with its downsides, and people will hate you for no reason because of it. She learned this the hard way, and she wasn’t trying to brag about her looks, she was simply sharing her experience about it.
