Completely Agree. When I left CFB, it wasn’t because of superficial reasons like burnout and NIL, but rather the sacrifice in time with my family wasn’t worth it anymore. It was a tough discussion with my wife to give up the dream. Being a great dad > Being a great coach
No. Balance implies 50-50. IMO, it’ll be almost impossible to be balanced if you do either at a high level. You might find a harmony that allows you to thrive as one or the other at different times of the year. But, there aren’t a lot of elite coaches and great dads out there. I’m sure you’re the exception reading this…and not all in your feelings. Also, you probably aren’t coaching at the highest levels either. Relax. My opinion. One of the many reasons you don’t see me aspiring to coach at high levels. I can tell you what you value by how/where you spend your time.
