Escaping my 9-5 by using FBA and FBM. Lots to learn, and lots to do. Follow as I share the ups and downs of learning the process and building my business.
This is a dumb tweet, but I got my first FBA sale today. Now I have two sales total, but at least my month-over-month chart is heading in the right direction, haha. Excited to have my first five boxes finally checked-in at Amazon, and I just dropped off three more today. LFG!
I’m not going to flash any orange bars here, because revenue does not equal profit, but I passed $20k in lifetime sales today. Feels damn good, too. Here’s to the next $20k.
Today's a big day for me professionally. It's officially my last day as a full-time graphic design/web design professor. At 47 years old and after 14 years at the college, I'm leaving academia to bet on myself.
I've appealed my Section 3 violation and am awaiting a decision, but I think I finally understand why I had an ASIN flagged. I was confused at first, because I don't have ANY products being sold under the "Generic" brand. I should be safe, right? Maybe not. Let's dig in. 👇
About to drop off my first FBA shipments to UPS. Probably won’t make much of a return if any of these products, but I know a whole lot more about the FBA process now than I did when I woke up today. 💪
Five straight days of getting a sale feels pretty awesome. Sending in three more boxes of FBA inventory tomorrow. Starting to see the flywheel come into focus. Just need the courage and confidence to go deeper on some products.
Four straight days over $100. Hoping today will be a fifth. It’s exciting to see the compounding returns of my effort. Who else has something to celebrate with their FBA business?
Just crossed over $60k in revenue for the year, having started selling in January. Think I can hit $100,000 by end of year with a strong Q4 push? I’d love to see it.
Pro tip: If you call Seller Support, and Erica picks up the phone, just hang up and call back the next day. I spoke with her for about 1/2 an hour today, and I think the odds of me getting my store back actually got worse. Anyway, enjoy next week. I wish you all much success.
My account is deactivated, I have 800+ units stranded, I can't make any sales and I can't take any money out, but I STILL have to fulfill these 7 FBM orders today. Good times.
Things I've done today with my seller account deactivated:
1. Clicked unsubscribe to every store promotional email that comes in.
2. Listed a few items on Ebay.
3. Checked my email as much as I used to check Seller Central, hoping for an ALL CLEAR email from Amazon support.
On a positive note, guess who enabled their first repricer today! Amazing to see the same product sell multiple times at different price points this afternoon.
Taking a moment to celebrate a hot start to the month. Crossed the $1k mark in just four days and change. Certainly a welcome trend. Now back to sourcing!
A small surge in sales today has taken me over $8k in lifetime revenue. April’s numbers were down, but I’m excited for the next couple of months. Planning on building this out more like a business instead of a side-hustle. Mistakes are sure to be made, and I’ll share ‘em all. LFG
Beginner's Notes on applying to sell Nike on Amazon:
Jan 9 – Denied
Jan 10 – Denied
Jan 11 – Denied
Jan 13 – Denied
Jan 16 – Denied
Jan 19 – Denied
Jan 25 – Denied
Jan 28 – APPROVED!!!
I’ve come to straighten this out in person.
Just kidding. I’m here for an FC tour organized by my kid’s PTA. Was 1000% more excited for this before my account was deactivated.
I've now crossed $11k for August, which is incredible. My biggest takeaway from this month, however, is that I have bought a lot of duds. Was trying to put together an FBA shipment, but a lot of my remaining inventory (bought over the past several months) are likely not
Have spent $702.59 on sourcing products today, a new daily high. (By far.)
#amazonFBA
is a capital-intensive game, and I've been slowly chipping away at my long-held money scarcity mindset. Spending today was easy. Having faith in Keepa charts can sometimes be hard.
Haven’t made a sale in like 31 hours. But that’s okay. Right now, each day’s success is defined by LEAD measures for me, and revenue is a LAG measure. Sourcing is a lead measure, and I have already spent $250 on new OA inventory.
I have already won today, regardless of sales.
Hot tip for beginners: is my go-to source for ungating buys. Have never had a problem using their enclosed packing slips for brand approval. But wait, there's more...
I'm 6 months into selling on Amazon. I have an LLC, business credit cards, a business checking account, but NO business credit. I need to fix that! Suggestions for "starter" Net30 opportunities to build credit history? I've already been given suggestions for ULine and Grainger.
Boy, am I glad to see another $100 sales day. It’s been a pretty dry week, and self doubt has set in. While I’m happy to have a bigger bar today, I need to reset, take what I’ve learned, and come at this anew. Version 2.0 starts tomorrow. LFG.
Social moment tonight: I taught my son to prep small products, putting them in poly bags and applying the correct FNSKU sticker. Told him I’d pay him 50 cents per item, so he made a cool $8.50. Guess this means I have my first employee. Next up will be his Roth IRA account.
The good news is I just finally figured out how to look at Profitability reports in InventoryLab.
The bad news is I just finally figured out how to look at Profitability reports in InventoryLab. 😭
It’s amazing. Found product on clearance at Walgreens earlier today. Listed as FBM an hour and half ago. Just sold. Time to pack and ship! The velocity of money can be crazy.
About to drive to Austin for a Mastermind event. Going to drop these 42 units off at UPS first so I’ll still have an inbound shipment this week. Gotta continually feed the beast!
Rough week. Only moved 15 items over the past seven days. Have a lot of shoes checked in but only two pairs purchase (and one of those returned). Self-doubt creeping in, but I will need to get better at sourcing. That’s the solution.
Hit a new personal best for units sold today with 16! Would love a few more before the day is done. In the meantime, I have some RA units to prep for FBA inbounding.
Good: I dropped another three FBA boxes off at UPS this morning.
Bad: Mindset is wavering today. Doubt is creeping in. Sales are painfully slow. Some product I ordered from GameStop arrived too beat up to list as Brand New. Questioning a lot.
Think I’m gonna go workout now.
Won’t lie: having a Prep Center makes prepping my own stuff feel more like a chore. (This box only has 21 items. Some holds from earlier this year and some recent RA finds.) This part of the biz doesn’t pack the same excitement for me that it did three months ago.
I spent almost $400 on inventory today. Small by some standards but big by mine.
Experience and knowledge lead to greater confidence.
Greater confidence leads to bigger buys.
Onward!
Just sent my Section 3 appeal email, chock-full of documents to support my case. Wonder when I'll hear back though. There are some great sales and cashback deals today, but I'm wary of doing any more spending until this is resolved.
Just had an awesome meet up with three other houston-area sellers at a local brewery! We all started selling this year and are different revenue levels. Lots of great information exchanged.
Felling a bit better today. It’s not because I had my first $200 day yesterday (although that does feel good), but because I’m shifting strategies based on past results. Using what I have learned to forge new paths ahead. Now let’s all go crush Thursday!
I think I’m seriously about to give up on trying to ungate new brands. I’m not saying Amazon is wrong in their enforcement, but the topography of the game has changed dramatically.
My son and I went to Academy this afternoon to get new running shoes. I installed SellerAmp on his phone, so while I was looking at shoes for me, he scanned about 20 sale items and found a pair of Nikes we bought to flip. Teach 'em young!
What goes up must come down. Still have a few hours left to hopefully get on the scoreboard today. The good news is I’ll be prepping and shipping a few FBA boxes tomorrow. Can’t stop, won’t stop.
Kohls online order fail: Who thought it was a good idea to ship these in a polybag as opposed to a box? Guess I’ll be driving these to the store for an exchange or refund.
Sent out 7 FBM orders today and already have another 8 that I need to prep for tomorrow. Feels pretty good, except for the part where still I can't request any payouts.

I had an FBA item returned, then sent back to me as being unsellable. Turns out it's been swapped out with a completely different item. I tried to file a SAFE-T claim, but it's not eligible b/c it's FBA. What's the proper avenue here? Just open a ticket w/ Amazon?
I'm doing a small A2A flip (Amazon-to-Amazon), and this is how my product arrived. Can you spot the five boxes of 10, lol? Two important things to take away from this image:
I'm guessing (hoping?) others may feel this way:
I had a record sales day yesterday ($743 in sales!), but today I've been stressed out over sourcing for larger quantities and just running up against the grind of imaging how to scale this operation. Ups and Downs, amiright?
Wow. Just uploaded photos and a packing slip for a brand ungating request, not expecting to hear anything until Thursday or Friday. Got an approval email less than two minutes later. That's never happened to me before. 🚀
Just dropped 5 boxes and 94 units off at UPS for FBA. Should be the last shipment of that size for a few months as I’ve started sending inventory buys to a prep center. Definitely will not miss prepping.
Two boxes packed and ready for UPS dropoff. The top box has 66 units and shipping to Amazon checks in at $0.12 per item. The bottom box has 9 pairs of shoes, with the shipping cost coming in at over $1 per item. Food for thought.
Kohl's is where it's at for OA right now. Just placed an un-gating order for a brand and am getting 20% back in Kohl's cash. Snagged another 2% via TopCashBack. The flywheel is real.
Got shut out yesterday (boo!)
But have two sales today (yay!)
About to haul 5 prepped boxes to UPS (yay!)
But costing me $43 in shipping fees (boo!)
Enjoy your Saturday everyone!
At my son’s baseball tournament, waiting on his second game to start. I’m not confident enough to source on my phone, but that doesn’t mean I can’t work on other areas of my business.
Just finished boxing up 61 units across 18 SKUs. These will all head to Memphis. Hoping they can get checked in within 10 days. I like my current cadence of getting new boxes to UPS each Saturday.
#amazonFBA
Decided today was a good day to take a sh*t-ton of flattened cardboard to the recycling center. Going to submit my appeal and then hit up the gym before picking my kid up from school. Onward!
Just dropped off 81 units across 20 SKUs to UPS for FBA. Prep takes so much time. I need to lean on my prep center more, but I also need to find products with a higher margin. The sauce is in the sourcing, and I need to get better.
At what month in your FBA journey did you "break even" for the first time, accounting for all Amazon fees, software subscriptions, shipping costs, etc? Asking for a friend...
Amazon business account FTW! Saw an A2A item I had previously purchased back at a low price (courtesy Amazon). Each item was $14, but if I "bought in bulk" via my business account, I was able to buy 5 for $10.92 apiece. Free Non-prime shipping and no sales tax make it sweeter.
Twitter has been an AMAZING resource for How-to-Amazon. Tweets, communities, courses, etc. And yet I don't recall anyone warning of the great Ungate Clampdown ahead of Q4, haha. I should have gone hard on that in May, June, and July.
Thank you to everyone who commented and provided very good suggestions for my "switcheroo" return. I submitted my claim and the photos, and Amazon has already refunded me $44.18! Y'all are awesome, thank you.
Control what you can control. So I gathered some materials necessary for the section 3 appeal, and now I’m gonna sweat out some bad vibes at the gym. 💪
Limiting beliefs around coaching are more of a reflection of your current belief in self.
I’ve been there. I know how it feels. Those beliefs can change without coaching, however, coaching allows you to skip the line.
