Rating universities by the salaries of their graduates is the tawdriest thing I have heard for ages. What about contribution to the common good? What about those institutions that form teachers and healthcare workers rather than City bankers?

So let’s be clear. Three months ago the Tories kicked out Johnson for lack of moral framework. Now they want him back. So has he repented and amended his life? Or does electability now trump everything including basic moral sense? What a cesspit we are in.

It’s sad that it takes a (wonderful) @coflancs priest weeping on TV to reveal the catastrophic crisis of poverty that our nation faces, but the wave of generosity it has unleashed shows a national desire to act. We will need much more altruism like this in the months ahead.

It seems fitting that we should hear the news of Desmond Tutu's death on the Feast of St Stephen, another who knew the cost of making a stand for the Kingdom. May the Gospel courage of both inspire the whole church in 2022.

It's critical that government agrees to extend the school meal voucher scheme into the Summer holidays. It's critical that easily accessible funding is found to enable churches and charities to offer food and support to families over Summer which can be done at very low cost.
