i sat for a course organised by oxford and we were asked to share policies our govt successfully implemented to cushion the effect of covid-19. while my coursemates from different parts of the world were sharing sound policies, “hoarding palliatives” was just ringing in my head
I hate when Nigerians speak ill of Nigeria to foreigners as a conversation starter or filler. I’m not saying sugarcoat it. But come on, that can not be your crutch to hold conversations. Agbaya.
for someone who is very optimistic about nigeria’s destiny, how do you even say that outside without a deep sense of shame, even when it is a hard fact? and this was not even a conversation starter or filler, it was a direct question
I really like how small things makes me happy. I bought a mug yesterday, and since then I have been carrying everywhere around the house with a smile on my face. I pray I never lose this part of me.

is definitely the best thing I have heard this year.
I spoke to one HR professional that left Nigeria to Canada almost a year ago, she said most of the things she was doing as HR in Nigeria, if she tried it in Canada, she would be in jail. The broken Nigerian system enables and emboldens bad behaviour.
supremely honoured to have been a part of the drafting of this act, which is easily one of the most important pieces of legislation today and in the years ahead.
President Tinubu has signed a bill that will protect the citizens’ personal data. The Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023 is also predicted to create about 500,000 job opportunities for Data Protection Officers.
@The_olakunle
i settled for the tax rebate policy positioned only for registered companies via the economic stimulus bill. i recall concluding by lauding its good intention but flagging that the nigerian economy is largely informal so most nigerians may not have benefited from the policy
i miss my mother in the littlest things; i remember her staying up late till i’m home from work so i could read to her during her final months. most times she’d be half asleep, but her face will light up once i’m home. she’d say ‘oga i have been waiting for you, come and read’
For the first time, I decided to gift myself. I got two things I have been wanting for while, a Macbook and Ayisha Osori's "Love Does Not Win Elections".❤
@The_olakunle
the problem with policies in nigeria is that we do not take monitoring and evaluation seriously to test our policy’s effectiveness. only with that will you know whether to discontinue, finetune or scale up the policy, —or at the bare minimum for education and future planning.
The first mothers day without my mum. This will take a lot of getting use to but I’m learning that time doesn’t always heal everything but it eases things a bit.
one thing i love about adeleke’s emergence is that it shows us that leadership can look different from our preconceived image of how a leader should look or sound.
Upon returning from a protest, I spoke to a few people from the older generation about
#SARSMUSTEND
they couldn't relate, some even tried to trivialize our efforts. Now I'm wondering, could it be PTSD from the Military regime or just cheap crack?
Lost a lecturer that taught me at Law School, last month.
A eulogy by a fellow lecturer said: "as I could humanly see, I testify that in Sa'adDeen Ibrahim there was no wickedness."
I can testify too.
I pray, in my absence, the same can be said about me & people will testify.
I was the youngest. I hear I still hold that record. So we went to Senegal. By the next year, I had the blessing of being the 'leader' of Mooting. So with the blessing of my Dean, Prof. Oyelowo Oyewo (who is now Attorney General of Oyo State), I made it an open process
I have always been convinced that the prosperity of Africa is intrinsically tied to the prosperity of Nigeria. Now more than ever I’m convinced the prosperity of the entire black race is tied to Nigeria. The destiny of this country is bigger than what we can conceive.
guessed you missed the actual response below. regardless, assuming i stuck with my first thought, the hoarding of palliatives did happen and what we are not going to do here is trivialize the negative impact for the sake of “preserving an image”
.
I think there’s something pathologically wrong with us as Nigerians. While other countries reckon with BOTH the successes AND failures of their Covid policymaking, something very tragic seems to compel us to focus only on our own negatives.
It’s very ignorant to think other
I was terribly ill today, bedridden for most of the day. My family turning into an 'army of white coats' was everything I needed to know about pure genuine love. ❤
Wasting a human's life without dire consequences cannot be the status quo. This hero was basically doing his duty as a citizen and he was wasted for it.

George R. Martins said in the Game of Thrones “When the snow falls and the white wind blows, the lone wolf dies but the pack survives.”
Happy Birthday
@dg_olika
, glad to have you in my pack for 7+ years and I’m glad to be in yours❤️
A week ago, some heroes went out peacefully to demand for the right not to be murdered and they were murdered for it.
20-10-20 - Never forget.

I have seen and read about how sound-peculiar policies have moved countries from poverty to prosperity and how bad ones reversed development.
I see many possibilities with

and how we can contribute to sound policies within Africa.

I hope this NUGA games wouldn’t just be another bragging rights contest. I hope local coaches and scouts are at the games to identify and groom talents that can compete in the next olympics.
Security guards strictly enforcing the wearing of masks largely because they are selling should teach you something about how regulations and enforcement work in Nigeria.
A couple of months ago,
I started working on this project, with a few amazing people. We have focused on building it's foundation and I'm thrilled that we're moving to the second phase of our milestones.

i’m keen on documenting every aspect of my life. the highs, the lows, the thorn with roses, the moments when I felt most alive, and the ones when I questioned the essence of life. the doubts and pride. the colourful days and days when it was pitch black.
everything.
regardless, after the elections, we must focus on building better party structures, if we want a political system that is sustainable. we can’t always rely on the character of one man or a few good people. history teaches and we must learn.
last month, i found this collection of poems written by tupac at
@Rovingheights
. the fact that it was directly reproduced from the original manuscript - in his handwriting made it more special.
i think he had a curious mind.
sharing my top 10 since it’s pac’s birthday [thread]
This period have made me realise, I may need to drop some of my idealism. Some people are just people, some things are just things and nothing more pretentious.
i remember a conversation i had with someone a couple of years ago. the person asked, 'how do you know when you are a good researcher?' on a whim i said, 'it's when you start seeing the future.' the person asked how, and I responded, 'because history repeats itself.'
a lot of things happened in the past 8 years, but 5 events are top of mind for me —20/10/20, the horror of that abuja-kaduna train attack & agatu massacre, years of students sitting at home and hoarding palliatives. these events influence my choice at the polls today.
If you have an interest in international law, then you should watch Rose Island on Netflix —an exceptional biopic on an event in history that shaped the law on state recognition and the law of the sea.
my mother taught us how to work quietly and thanklessly. she always reminded us not to seek pride in material things and why we should abhor envy. my siblings and i learnt a lot about kindness from her actions and for her life i’m eternally grateful.
I don't know why some people condemn gathering at Late Abba Kyari's funeral. This calls to question whether we want to run a communist state or capitalist one.
Abba Kyari was a senior citizen & statesman, his burial couldn't have been same with that of others
This is capitalism
If you intend to start reading about Nigeria's politics, don't start with any historical text or treatise, start with Achebe's - A Man of the People. You must accept that politics in Nigeria is a satire before anything else.
Hi guys, I have been working on this exciting project in building a Think Tank with some amazing young people. We are currently at the final stage of our pilot-phase.

i’m less concerned about the outcome because in a democracy, we deserve the leaders we elect, my disappointment steams from truncating the process. this is personal because after 2019 we worked to provide a legal/policy basis for a better electoral process to avoid this in ‘23.
Despite U.K's economy set to contract by 11.3% this year, their largest fall in 300yrs. The U.K. still announced a 2.2% increase to the national living wage, from £8.72 to £8.91 (N4,500) per hour.
This means you can earn Nigeria's minimum wage of 30k/month in less than 7 hours.
