Just as the postmodernist critique sounded the death knell of grand narratives much too prematurely, and just as Fukuyama’s “end of history” celebrated liberal democracy and capitalism much too glibly, so is this burial of liberalism exaggerated. 🧵
Feels like the Gaza war was the event that finally put an end to the 20th century. Liberalism was the last grand ideology standing and now it finally looks unsavory and ridiculous too.

@Noahpinion Do we, though? I don’t think so. The 20th century will always be the century of two World Wars, the Holodomor, the Holocaust, Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution, the Cold War. Sure, good things also happened, but triumph? Hardly.
