Patrick Ewing just landed his first five star in Aminu Mohammed.
Highest rated recruit since Greg Monroe in 2008
The Hoyas class of 2021 is very strong.
Before answering questions after beating Syracuse, Mac McClung wanted to talk futbol.
"First before I say anything I just want to give a shoutout to the
@GUHoyasMSoccer
team. They're dong a great job"
Georgetown faces UVA Sunday night for the National Championship.
Georgetown received a vote in the AP Top 25 poll for the first time since Dec. 11, 2017.
Sam Blum of the Dallas Morning News was the astute reporter to do so, ranking the BIG EAST Champion Hoyas No. 25 on his ballot
@SamBlum3
@CasualHoya
Washington snapped a losing streak to the Giants and did it in - for them - unusual fashion by scoring 30.
No. of games scoring 30 or more for WFT
2021 - 1 (15 games left)
2020 - 1
2019 - 1
2018 - 1
2017 - 2
More Boeheim on Akinjo: "the other guy was throwing the ball up all the time. He lost two games by himself. Patrick can't say that but I can."
"They way they were playing earlier in the year, we would have won.
Seems unlikely Akinjo ends up at Syracuse.
Final: Georgetown 73, No. 19 Butler 66
Hoyas now 6-1 at Hinkle Fieldhouse
Allen with 22 points
Blair, Wahab, Pickett all in double figures
Guess who's back in the NCAA Tournament mix?
Hoyas improve to 15-10, 5-7
Best win under Ewing? No Mac or Omer
Final: Holy Cross 68, Georgetown 67
The Crusaders (331) are the lowest rated KenPom team to beat Georgetown.
Previous lowest rated KP teams to beat the Hoyas:
301 American 2023
289 Dartmouth 2022
Holy Cross last beat a team from a power conf team in the 2012 season (BC).
Terrell Allen now has 'a game' for the Hoyas.
Today will forever be referred to as the Terrell Allen Game.
The grad transfer played 40 minutes, went 9 for 14 - including 4 for 4 from deep - in scoring a season high 22 points.
One of those 3's was fittingly enough the dagger
Georgetown Players to win the BET Championship MVP Dave Gavitt Trophy
2021 Dante Harris
2007 Jeff Green
1996 Victor Page
1992 Alonzo Mourning
1989 Charles Smith
1987 Reggie Williams
1985 Patrick Ewing
1984 Patrick Ewing
1982 Sleepy Floyd
1980 Craig Shelton
I think - and I know this may sound crazy to some - but I think it's possible to be a Georgetown fan that was looking for a change while at the same time finding a way to show some self control and not celebrate the fact that school had to part ways with the face of the program.
I'm not sure I had ever been more nervous as a teenager than approaching John Thompson and asking for a picture.
He was really nice and this has always been one of my favorite photos.
Boeheim on Akinjo: They got rid of a guy that didn't pass the ball and shot it every time.
More Boeheim: I think by far this is the best Georgetown team we've seen in the last few years.
Final/OT: Georgetown 72, Notre Dame 68
Hoyas (7-4) have matched last seasons win total heading into Big East play.
It's Georgetown's first non conference road victory since winning at SMU on Dec. 7, 2019.
Georgetown and Patrick Ewing win a recruiting battle over Notre Dame and Michigan to get Top 100 and 4-star 2020 F Terrance Williams from Gonzaga HS.
Great local get for Ewing and the Hoyas
If you go to the Rivals recruiting page for 2021 BET MVP Dante Harris you will see the following schools offered:
Binghamton
Georgia State
Canisius
East Tennessee State
Toledo
Jacksonville
South Alabama
Georgetown
Score one for the eye test from Ewing and his staff
Georgetown coach Patrick Ewing says he's received thousands of messages since the Hoyas won the BET including Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley.
The Hoyas are the Space Jam team.
James Akinjo is the biggest Georgetown recruit in quite some time. Probably Otto.
Higher ranked recruits have come through since Otto but Georgetown has to shake the idea that point guards can't thrive on the Hilltop.
Big opportunity for Ewing, Akinjo, and the Hoyas.
Jahvon Blair and Jamorko Pickett are the first classmates to both reach 1,000 points at Georgetown since Hoya greats Austin Freeman and Chris Wright did so
@dawgtalk101
Off the court Georgetown coach Patrick Ewing was very complimentary of Qudus Wahab at any chance he was given on TV throughout the BIG EAST Tournament.
On the court Ewing wanted the Hoyas to play through Wahab on offense as much as possible.
Wild one.
NC State just won 5 conference games in 5 days at Capital One Arena.
Georgetown last won 5 conference games *in a season* at Capital One Arena in 2019.
Final: (8) Georgetown 72, (1) Villanova 71
Frosh guard Dante Harris with 2 GW FTs with 4.7 left
Hoyas advance to first BET semis since 2015
Harris 18p, 5a, ZERO turnovers
Wahab 17p, Blair 14p, Pickett 12p
Biggest win under Ewing
And for the second straight week, Georgetown's Mac McClung is the BIG EAST Player of the Week.
The sophomore guard had 26 points in a win over Syracuse last week.
Hoyas (7-3) host UMBC tomorrow.
Caught up briefly with Georgetown great D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera just a bit ago. He's excited about the Hoyas future.
DSR: "I have hopes to be apart of the return and rebuilding of the program."
(He hadn't seen any correspondence yet about men's hoops alumni. )
Qudus Wahab will be the first player in Georgetown history with a first name that starts with the letter Q.
This is the information you knew you needed and I'm happy to provide it.
Also, he can keep his high school number of 15 with Govan leaving.
For
@MarkelStarksII
and
@GeorgetownHoops
we go back to 2013. Starks went for 19 points on 7-13 from the field to lead the Hoyas to a 61-39 win over Syracuse. This secured a Big East regular season championship for Georgetown.
Final: Georgetown 86, No 16 Marquette 84
Hoyas (19-12, 9-9) clinch a top 6 spot for the first time since 2015.
Ewing picks up his second win over a ranked opponent as Akinjo and McClung combined for 48 points.
Hoyas pick up 3rd conf road win at Marquette, first since 2015
Georgetown entered the 2019-20 season with 3 players that had just earned all Big East Freshman honors:
James Akinjo - Frosh of the Year
Mac McClung
Josh LeBlanc
They combined to play 34 games as sophomores and have now all transferred.
Mac McClung on handling the difficult situation and the team staying together:
"I think that's what happens when you face challenges. You either break apart or come together and I think we've come together."
McClung is averaging 26 points as the Hoyas have gone 3-0.
Patrick Ewing:
We did not compete. Every effort thing we didn’t do it.
As a person who’s played 17 years, coached 23 years. I was disappointed in my team’s performances
Guys are always bitching about you want playing time. Now you have to show you deserve to be on the floor.
Georgetown All BIG EAST Honors
First Team - Jessie Govan
All-Freshman - James Akinjo, Mac McClung, & Josh LeBlanc
Govan is first Hoya since 2015 (DSR) to make the 1st team
This is the first time 3 Hoyas made the All-Frosh team
I believe I had all of this last night
Georgetown's James Akinjo won his second BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.
Jessie Govan with another BIG EAST Honor Roll appearance for the Hoyas.
Georgetown hosts Marquette on Tuesday at 830 pm.
Let's get one thing straight real quick.
Georgetown wouldn't be 'stealing' a bid from Syracuse.
They would have earned it.
Knocking out a team that plays their conference tournament in Greensboro would just be a bonus.
Georgetown announces that center Qudus Wahab is back after a season in College Park. Wahab spent his first two seasons with the Hoyas.
Seems as though the Hoyas are now at 14 scholarships. We'll see how that plays out.
Georgetown update: Sources say the Hoyas are set to hire Tasha Butts as the next women's coach early next week
@CasualHoya
Butts was the associate HC at Ga Tech and has also been at LSU & UCLA. She played in 3 Final Fours under Pat Summitt at Tenn and then in the WNBA in 2004.
Georgetown coach Patrick Ewing said that F/C Bradley Ezewiro (wisdom teeth) will be available tomorrow night vs Northwestern.
Ezewiro played seven games for LSU last season.
The debate about the better job in 2023- Georgetown or Providence - was literally just settled in real life.
Ed Cooley was Mr Providence. He would have never been fired and was on pace for a statue. He left to take over Georgetown despite the Hoyas going 13-50 the last 2 seasons
The idea that a promising big man would transfer AWAY from Patrick Ewing is just mind boggling.
Like, that's supposed to be the THING that Georgetown has to offer among tons of other positives. To hone your skills under a HOF center, not move away from that opportunity.
Shaheen Holloway's Saint Peter's defenses as ranked on KenPom
2022 - 31
2021 - 61
2020 - 80
2019 - 252
For programs looking to improve a consistently poor defense, check out what they are doing in Jersey City.
Jamorko Pickett made it official earlier that he will go pro and pass on the chance to play a 5th year at Georgetown.
Big East champion, 1,000 point scorer, led the Hoyas back to the NCAA Tournament. Will go down as a fan favorite along with classmate Jahvon Blair
Hoyas 88, Illinois 80
Huge road win for Georgetown.
The freshmen came large.
Akinjo 19 points and 7 assists
LeBlanc 14 points and 7 boards
McClung 12 points and 4 assists
Special mention to Blair with 11 off the bench
I'm late to the party as I was at my company holiday party
I told everyone to be patient with Jahvon Blair.
He's at SEVEN 3-pointers which ties a Georgetown record
On the latest edition of Georgetown looks better now than they did in the beginning of the season, here's American coach Mike Brennan:
"Their recent games, they share the ball they compete, they look like they like each other."
Brennan was an assistant at Georgetown under JT3
Fanta going around telling everyone he knows who Georgetown's next coach is going to be without, you know, saying who it is is going to be is a vastly underrated side story
No matter who ends up with the major rebuilding job, he can afterwards say he knew it. Brilliant.
Georgetown is a 5-point favorite against DePaul at home tomorrow.
Hoyas can keep fading NCAA Tournament hopes alive with a win.
McClung is day-to-day. (Aren't we all really?)
Some good news here as
@dawgtalk101
says that Georgetown will have a
@thetournament
team
Prelim roster for the team that will be known as Dawg Town
Chris Wright player/GM
Freeman - Coach
Clark
DSR
Bowen
Pryor
Whittington
Sims
Vaughn
Trying to get Monroe, also wants Hopkins
Patrick Ewing:
"I'm happy to welcome Brandon Murray to the Hilltop. He chose Georgetown and we want to make him feel right at home. I am excited to see what he can do here and he is an important building block in our efforts to return this program back to national prominence."
Final: Georgetown 91, SMU 74
Hoyas improve to 6-3 behind a balanced effort.
Blair with 21, McClung & Yurtseven with 19, Pickett 11
Allen w/ 10 assists
Ewing' s offense works well when the ball moves
Blair ties Hoyas record with seven 3-pointers
Next up: Syracuse on Dec 14
Former Georgetown Hoya and DMV native Greg Whittington made his NBA debut for the Denver Nuggets on Saturday.
@Built4Bucketz
played 46 games for the Hoyas from 2011-13 and has played professionally in the G League, Australia, Japan, Israel, and Turkey.
Georgetown 2021 recruiting class after tonight's news.
PG Tyler Beard
SG Jordan Riley
PF Jalin Billingsley
C Ryan Mutombo
This is easily a Top 20 class for the Hoyas.
Ewing is currently out of scholarships to give for 20-21 .
Feinstein on
@JunksRadio
talking Georgetown - "Patrick was a hero and always will be but it isn't working."
"You have to cut the Thompson ties. You bring in someone that says ok the statute is still there and always will be but we are doing things in a completely different way."
Jamari Sibley announced he's going to be playing for Coach Ewing at Georgetown next season.
6'8 2020 forward out of Wisconsin. Top 100 kid.
Hoyas are over the scholarship limit for next season but that will sort itself out.
