A high school counselor once told me that my college apps didn't go as well as expected because I didn't "play the game" This has haunted me. I can always smell "the game", like rotting food, and I can never bring myself to play it, I'm disgusted by it

But many times I know for sure that it's the game Some ways to define it: - Competition exists somewhere behind the scenes where competition shouldn't be happening - Rules and criteria are being used where they persist simply because no one has the bandwidth to change them

A more general definition is this: "The game" is the secret rules behind the public, stated rules of a system. These are rules that have evolved and grown over time as a result of entropy, corruption, or failures and gaps in the facade rules

I understand the issues with this, and it certainly hasn't helped me in life I'm sure there are many times where I think I'm being asked to play "the game", when im actually being asked to do something based on legitimate rules that I simply don't understand

I get that this is how human collectives work, and I'm sure that there is plenty of games that I do participate in, which appear as "the game" to others But it's frustrating. I want to believe that its possible for systems to function without self-deception built-in

In fact “in Christ” is used a total of 216 times in Paul’s letters. It’s a key part of his understanding of the believer’s relationship to Christ. The image Paul is going for is nothing less than a living, growing agent in the physical world, whose body is made up of humans.

A few things grind my gears about the “mind virus” description as it’s usually deployed. 1. If a meme has had a mutually beneficial relationship with its host for millennia, the negative connotations of virus seem misplaced. Is an organism’s genome a virus to its cells?

The Doctrine of the Body of Christ can found all over Paul’s writings, especially 1 Corinthians, as well as in the Gospels. Paul describes the believers as “members” (limbs) of Christ’s body, of which Christ himself is the head. Believers participate “in Christ”, in his work.

Christ’s mission on earth was to die on the cross for the sins of the world, but it was also to die on the cross so that all could receive the NEWS that he died and rose. His mission is fundamentally to be a vector for a piece of information, a message from the Father.

A key aspect of memes is that they have their own agency. The intuition that memetics overturns is that we decide the information we spread solely of our own will. The New Testament authors were very clear about this with respect to the Gospel.
