TEXANS—another shift north with
#beryl
, making a direct impact on the Texas coast more and more of a possibility. The 12z Tue GFS shows a powerful storm further north than any of its previous runs. Anything from a tropical storm to a major hurricane is on the table.
#tropics
TEXANS—the entire TX coast is now in the cone. Models inching northward. You need to have a hurricane plan of action. Hurricane watches for the Texas coast are likely this weekend. While STX has the higher chance from C. Christi south, CTX near Port A can’t be ruled out.

So when we're talking our first cold front with "substantially cooler" temps, what does that mean? Well here's a low resolution GFS model for Thursday, September 10th showing first 50s?!. Long ways out but something to hope for!

I would normally not share something so personal, but my family (mainly mom and dad) have struggled with my gay “lifestyle.” Despite the differences in how we see things, he’s a real dad with unconditional love. I’m very lucky. If he’s willing to meet me half way, so am I. ❤️
It appears as tho—& recon confirmed—a slight NE motion. If trend continues, the center of the storm could pass right over Houston.
Houston/Galveston should be thanking God that this won’t be a major ‘cane. The ULL and severe core disruption over Yucatán took its toll.
#beryl
Houston, we have a problem. I-45 North Frwy is closed. Water up to the roof of cars. I-10 is closed in multiple areas. Traffic is a disaster.

Forgot to post the finished product this year. I did colored lights on my house for the first time because I think multi-color is more Christmas-ee than traditional all white that I’ve done in years past. You like?

has opened up her eye. A troubling sign that she will make a run for cat 4 strength before landfall. According to the NWS, a major hurricane has not hit this part of Florida since at least 1851–or more than 170 years. This is the “big one” for that area.
Wow! Now THAT’S a green sky. The sky is green due to the abundance of hail in the cloud and light being refracted off the ice. This is **classic** and a sign you better get your car inside quick. Credit: Maria Bell-Trejos

It's so liberating 2 B truthful to myself and no longer be afraid of those who dissent.
The demons that have kept me afraid my whole life can't haunt me into being anything other than who I am any more: an amazing guy who happens to be gay.
LIFE UPDATE (while taxiing from Vegas 😂)
I’m moving to Dallas-Fort Worth to work along side the team of meteorologists at
@CBSDFW
! My first day is Monday, October 18th!
I go from Channel 11 in Houston to 11 in DFW. I’m excited to begin a new chapter next to
@ScottPadgettCBS
15 years ago this week, the largest evacuation in US history was underway in which 3 million of Houston’s 5.5 million residents (then) left at the same time paralyzing every major artery out ahead of cat 5
#Rita
. Travel times were 40 HOURS to Dallas (normal 4 hrs).
#KHOU11
I don’t know about you guys but it’s nice to work for somebody that doesn’t see you as “just an employee.” My boss called me today just to say hi and to see if I was okay or needed anything. It’s easy to lose the humanity in the newsroom with the everyday routine. Made my day. 😁
Today is my last day at KHOU. It’s been a privilege to serve my hometown over the past 5 years. You can catch my last broadcast at 12/4pm.
This pic was taken one month after I started in 2016. We’ve been through so much together and I want to thank you for trusting me.
#KHOU11
As my days in Houston come to a close, I will miss occasions like this. I’m fortunate that my school teachers reach out to me including Ms. Rogers from
#SallyKRide
, my 2nd grade teacher. Today we had a goodbye lunch. She had an impact on me then and she still does 28 yrs later.
BIG NEWS: The much anticipated cold front has entered Texas! Temps are dropping in Amarillo now and will soon be dropping in Houston tomorrow afternoon. Fall arrives in a few hours, y'all. It'll turn breezy behind the front, too.
#KHOU11
Welp—I’m all packed up and I’ll be headed to Dallas first thing tomorrow morning. This is the third time I’ve packed up and moved in 4 months. I hope this is the last of the moves for a long time to come.

As I approach my 35th birthday on the 28th, I look back at the fitness journey I decided to undertake. The pic on the left was in late 2017 vs 2019. The 3rd and final phase of my transition will begin next week and I hope this encourages somebody to be the best that they can be.
Good reminder to always be polite:
I’m in the store this morning and made small talk with the cashier (I talk to everybody) and I was getting ready to walk off he says, “good luck in Florida.”
I said, “wait, how’d you know?” He said, “I know who you are! My weatherman!”
👀😅
***LIFE UPDATE***
Today, I officially can announce I have a brand new title!
Call me UNCLE! My sister has given birth to a beautiful baby boy named Sawyer. Pictures to come! I may or may not be crying like Sawyer right now.
I. AM. SO. EXCITED! First time, very proud UNCLE!
HOUSTON: Hurricane conditions, especially on the w side are closing in. prep should be done.
Wind: 60-80 mph gusts, possibly stronger.
Power outages: widespread, expected.
Flooding: 8-12+ inches
Tornadoes: possible
Damage mainly cosmetic.
This is no Ike or Harvey.
#beryl
ECLIPSE COUNTDOWN: Exactly 4 years from today, Texas and a large chunk of the United States will experience a total solar eclipse. Totality (complete darkness) will be seen near San Antonio, Austin and Downtown Dallas. Houston, will get very dim, but not dark, with 95% coverage.
This week marks one of the wildest moments (and scariest) of my life. Cat 5 Rita was on final approach to Houston (or so we thought) and triggered the largest evacuation in US history. Travel times were 40 hrs to Dallas. 30 hrs to Austin. It took my family 9 hrs to go 50 miles.
One year ago today we were watching the total solar eclipse pass over the U.S. BUT in 2024 the path of totality will pass directly over Texas and put San Antonio, Austin, Waco and Dallas in complete darkness while Houston will be almost dark at 95% coverage.

: I have decided to leave KHOU-TV soon.
The last 5 years have been an experience and under

leadership, I’m a better, more seasoned meteorologist.

I hate to throw a name out willy-nilly, but this looks and smells like Alicia—a very tiny, yet fast intensifying storm on approach to the Texas coast. I’m not saying it’ll match Alicia’s intensity (cat 3) but it looks and feels similar. Humberto and Nicholas, too.

seems to be reorganizing pretty quickly. It looks like an eye-like feature is trying to form—or it could be dry air being wrapped in—but if it is an eye, this thing is strengthening.

Waitress tonight:
“What do you do for work?”
Me:
“I’m a meteorologist.”
Waitress:
“That’s awesome! I’ve never met somebody that reads meters. Do you ever get attacked by dogs?”
Me:
*big smile* “No ma’am.”
Waitress:
“Btw, is your mom still alive?”
Can’t make this stuff up 🤷🏼♂️
Brand new model update: this model (GFS) now takes Houston down to 3 degrees with many areas to the north down to zero. If this is to be believed, look for all-time record cold by Tuesday morning.
#KHOU11
Today I complete my 36th trip around the sun! Happy birthday to me!
I’m excited to see what lay ahead over the next year. 35 was a big year of risk and change. I think at 36 I’ll cool my heels and maybe just take a nice vacation somewhere lol.

Happy National Coming Out Day!
It took a long time to build up the courage to admit to and be ok with who I was. Having very traditional values instilled in me made it even harder. I’m so happy to live freely now and show the world I know how to love somebody too.

Not only could the Houston area be close to a direct impact from a category 1 or 2 hurricane, but the tornado threat will be increasing steadily as

and its feeder bands swing through.

#BREAKING
the hurricane center now has a hurricane hitting the Texas coast near Galveston Tuesday night. Lots can still change. Be thinking of getting hurricane supplies ready just in case.
#KHOU11
Silver lining: at least now it’s prolly gonna snow this coming winter.
(For those that don’t know, there seems to be a correlation of a hurricane hitting Houston and it snowing here the next winter). ❄️ ⛄️
NOAA is in agreement that Summer is about to get the swift kick! If this strong front materializes, look for it around September 9th with substantially lower temps. I know I'm breaking a rule hanging my hat on something 10 days out but I WANT THIS BAD!!
#KHOU11
The models are so frustrating! One minute they're west (like the UKMET) next minute their in Louisiana. Then it's back to Texas. Given the Euro guidance, I am perplexed by the decision to leave the cone as is instead of moving it west. Houston, do NOT let your guard down.
#KHOU11
VERY strong tornado signature on velocity. TORNADO WARNING remains in effect Waller and west Harris County. This thing is marching into metro Houston at the height of rush hour. Yikes!
#txwx
Pressure down to 986mb per Miss Piggy (recon plane). Structure becoming impressive on radar. Likely nearing hurricane strength. Still a good 8 hours over water to go.

I totally forgot that today (9/13) is the 12th anniversary of Hurricane

looking more and more hurricane-like by the hour. Everybody ready? Power outages and flooding appears to be the main issue for Houston, followed by tornadoes and wind. Gusts to hurricane force into downtown Houston possible, if not likely. Conditions deteriorate after 12a.
