I obviously don’t speak for the whole Venom fandom, but I would say the reason a lot of us don’t overly criticize Sony’s Venom or Carnage is because they’re fun and at least get the spirit of the character right.
Insomniac’s is too way off the mark, Eddie or not.
Ooooo-!
DisneyStore has a new Venom figure in the “Power Icons” line that speaks, light up eyes, motion activated sound effects, even karate shop action! $35
Norman Osborn is “reformed” and going as the Gold Goblin.
Spider-Man: “It’s okay, we can work together!”
Venom: “I do not care and am going to kill you.”
Wow, okay, um.
In Spider-Man 2, Venom has the exact same wing design from the comics, but the art book makes it sound like this is their original design.
Saw this on Reddit.
I would fix this by saying “what comic venom is” and “how he’s shown in most media.”
You don’t gotta put this gatekeeping kinda superiority to it but can use it to educate people who want to get into the comics for important context.
I’ll say it again: I don’t care if it fits Insomniac’s narrative.
The VERY FIRST VENOM STAND ALONE GAME EVER should not be Harry Osborn. It should be Eddie Brock.
I like how Insomniac's Cletus Kassady is not just the serial killer from the comics but also the leader of a psychotic cult which makes him different from other versions.
Speaking of CW Spider-Man…
That whole Venom arc sucked. Yeah he was a cool big CGI monster but they blew all their budget on it so the whole arc was rushed. It was Harry, not Eddie, and Venom wanted to take over the world like wtf???? Barely felt like the character.
I’m putting this out here so I don’t lose it again: Spider-Punk/Hobie Brown whacking the shit out of Norman Osborn/Venom’s head brain popping out uncensored comic page by Sheldon Vella.
It’s not surprising to me how people that want 1 are way at the bottom of the thread and being downvoted, on the SPIDER-MAN subreddit.
Maybe Insomniac can redeem themselves but idk they really seem to not want to backpedal anything and just double down.
Let me also say that the artist of the model did shout out the creative team which is great, but the game and now the art book not even crediting the comics is really disrespectful no matter how you slice it.
In the 2014 mobile The Amazing Spider-Man 2 video game, Eddie Brock is looking into the shady goings-on at Oscorp despite Spidey’s warnings.
They abduct and bond him to the symbiote creating Venom that wants to infect the city and Spider-Man to join them.
Okay so. They do mention looking at the comics for inspiration for Venom’s design, but there’s also things like: “yeah we wanted a bigger symbiote and to make him lighter than Venom,” JUST SAY HE’s BASED OFF RIOT LIKE???
No mention of the spiral deisgn
@BitesTheCarnage
I meeeeeeaaaaaaan if I would sum up Carnage it would be “serial killer Cletus Kasady bonded to a spawn of Venom that wants to kill people,” yeah.
But like it also hasn’t done any damage to the character’s overall image.
I cracked it.
On the Spider-Man 2 team (from what I can see) there is no comic writer on that team. While there were two on the first game.
Look what they were going to do with Aunt May before Slott spoke up.
Slott could’ve told them or (any comic writer!) that you need Eddie.
@ratlocke
Eddie and the symbiote separating for a time to discover they need each other happens all the time, the rave is just where he wound up at. You can just say you don’t like the visual of him in glowsticks.
I’m still so baffled that if their next project was supposed to be a Venom game, why did they not set that up? Let the symbiote or Harry redeem themselves, show Eddie as the stinger not Cindy and they don’t even show her face.
Just so many odd decisions.
Venom’s first full appearance isn’t referenced enough. Like this is the first time since his debut. He almost had one for ASM 654.1, but man this is it.
It's insane how certain Twitter accounts have driven so much hates towards Insomniac and Spider-Man 2 because they didn't go with Eddie Brock, and instead did their own thing. The venom Fandom will hype up shitty fucking movies but can't stomach a good adaptation
