📣 Attention all friends of BCCC.
Next Sunday, August 4, the literal rule makers of cricket (
@MCCOfficial
) are coming to Spaniels Bridge to give us a game.
This is a first for us a club and a huge day for everyone associated with BCCC.
50 overs per side, start at 11.30am.
In dedication to the King of Cannings, the pavilion has now been renamed the Ed Davies Pavilion. ❤️❤️❤️
None of this would be possible without Edders giving up half of his free time for us, and he’s also responsible for propping up all of our averages with his green-tops.
🚨 Let's goooooo 🚨
After 34 years of being a cricket club, BCCC will play their first Saturday league game tomorrow in WCCL Div 6.
These are the 11 lucky sods to do it.
Away to
@Shrivenham_CC
, start at 1.30pm.
Come and support the boys!
Said his 1st word at 1.
BMX mad by 11.
Suspended from school at 13 (&14&15)
Got an English GCSE at 20.
But then he started pushing himself, achieving things he never thought possible (like getting a 12 week ban)
Sure, he was born in Devizes; BUT HE WAS MADE AT THE CANNINGS.
The best thing that came from yesterday's fixture was this...
@harryeastonn
headed out for a night on the lash to celebrate his highest score and the W, leaving his car in the Market Place overnight to collect today...it's now part of the Devizes fun fair.
We’ve done it! A 9 wicket victory against Swindon 4s secures promotion to Div 5.
We bowled them out for 151, with skipper Stan taking five.
Bramwell 50* and Mel 48 in the chase.
Get in!!!! One win away from the title.
RIP Lottie Rapson.
The Rapsons have been a huge part of BCCC and Lottie (centre) was an inspiration for a lot of the club’s fundraising.
We are truly sorry to hear of Lottie’s passing and our thoughts are with all of the family ❤️
🚨🚨🚨
Yep you can quit your gossiping - it’s official.
Bishops Cannings will be competing in Div 6 in the WCCL next season.
Founded in 1988, 2022 will be the first time BCCC have ever competed in a Saturday league for men’s cricket.
In 1988 BCCC was founded by a few mates in the pub and has since been a social side with a booming youth section.
Today will be the first time the men’s side have played in a county-wide competition as we host Fonthill Park in the Wiltshire Wallop.
This one’s for Uncle Ed!
Huge congrats to the skipper who has just touched down in Australia for another summer of cricket.
Stan’s out there searching for an overseas and keeping himself fit for Div 3 next season. He’s playing for Williamstown Imps in Melbourne.
We love you mate - go well. ❤️
📢 Wiltshire Wallop 2021 Quarter-Final Line Up confirmed!
➡️ The group stages of the competition have now been completed, meaning we enter the Q/F stage for both Cup & Plate competitions. Who will come out winners of Wiltshire's premier T20 competition?!
Boys did good.
Bowled Swindon Nalgo out for 144, chased with four to spare with 4 for the skipper.
After being 60-odd/6, Matt Lever and Cheesy put on a mega partnership to see us home.
Division 6 champions baby. Watch out the Dirty Shin - 20 odd coming your way in whites
@BishopsCCC
Should be in the plate let’s be honest? Shocking from wilts cricket to put you through, and shocking from you to not let the fixture be played
Another W for the boys away at
@SherstonMagnaCC
.
Tommy scored 145 and Phil 82, putting on 182 for the first-wicket stand, with us ending on 287/4.
We bowled them out for 192, Lever took another 4 bag, Cutler 2 and Alfie (niner) got 2.
6/6 fellas 💥💥💥
Wow what a game. Missing a handful and chasing 248, we knocked it off 2 down with 9 overs to spare. Joycey, Whit and Lever all hitting 50s. Get in there!!!! 3/3.
Another dubzilllaaaaaaa!
Calne ao for 66, Tristan Alsop finally finding his feet at Div 6 with 6/11 💨.
3 for Gary Hooper (Lever) and one for Brammers.
Chased with nine in the bank.
Two games to go!!
We’ve done it! 💥
Our W puts us 26 points ahead of Winsley 2s which all but confirms our promotion to Div 3 next season. Back-to-back promotions after jumping Div 5 is a huge achievement and we’re absolutely elated.
One left: a title-decider at Cannings vs Hinton Charterhouse.
In order to pay Big Phil’s lucrative salary demands, we’ve ventured into sponsorship this year.
We’ve been overwhelmed by the response and can’t thank our sponsors enough.
More to come soon. Look out for these bodacious boards when you grace the hallowed Spaniels Bridge turf.
After our Sporting Dinner with
@philtufnell
, we're extremely proud to announce we've raised over £1,000,000 for charity from our events over the last 20 years.
On behalf of chairman Ed Davies and the club, thanks so much to everyone that has attended or contributed. ❤️
Sure Ben Foakes has had a tough week, but let's end this “best keeper in the world” nonsense.
That would of course be our own specialist gloveman, Charlie Paget, and he’s worth his weight in gold (the chemical element, not the biscuits).
He’s our Rhinestoned Cowboy. ❤️
#OnThisDay
in 2017, Shannon Gabriel played the most stupid cricket shot of all-time.
All he had to do was see out one ball and let Roston Chase, who was on 101*, face the final over and save the Test.
Instead, he did this:
We're back in action tomorrow, facing
@allingtoncc
at the home of cricket, Spaniel's Bridge.
Just the one change:
➡️ Phil Alsop
⬅️ John Bramwell (work duties)
To celebrate our first-ever home league game, we're having a BBQ after the match.
Everyone welcome! ❤️
Congratulations to Harry Merrit & his partner who were blessed with Ferne Maria-Annie merritt on Tuesday! Truly amazing! The whole of BCCC cannot wait to see her up Spaniels bridge as soon as it’s safe to! Mezleyyy!!!!
#StaySafe
Get in!!! What a win. Got bowled out for 187 from about 43 overs.
In return, a special spell from Callum Barnes, opening the bowling down the slope today in absence of the skipper, and taking a sublime 6/24 - his first 5bag for the club.
They finished a/o for 70.
Owen Alsop getting pinned LBW in front of all 3 by a lad wearing velcro Lonsdales, black tracksuit bottoms and a 90s Admiral England Test shirt. (Kennet Valley, 2014)
Wow wow wow, what a bloody game.
They be finished 213/9, we chased it down with 3 overs remaining.
Brilliant 50 from Azza, but we were 6 down needing 84 to win from about 80 balls. An absolutely sublime partnership from Huw (57*) and Callum (25*) saw us home.
Highlight of the night possibly O Alsop running out an 8 year old by half a pitch after a full length diving stop at gully.
"They've just got to learn" said the
@WiltsCricket
coach.
Some people never change.
Joycey scored the first Cannings ton of the season (129) along the way, supported by an unreal knock by skipper John Bramwell (75) who’s notched up his second fifty in as many games.
Big ups the supporters on the side making a raucous as per usual 🔥🔥🔥
What a club ❤️❤️❤️
Another dub for the Cannings.
273/8 from our 45 (Joyce 88, Huw V-J 62*).
Ally 118 ao (Quigley 30/4, Lever 27/3).
What a day. Thanks so much to
@allingtoncc
for being unbelievable hosts. Proper club 🤝
Throwback to that time vice-skip John Bramwell went to the Rose Bowl as a full kit wanker dressed in Tom’s Hampshire gear and made some young lad’s day by posing for a picture with him.
If only his parents knew his economy rate, let alone where his hands have been.
Lovely photo to remind you just how village we are.
Yes that’s a Poland football top and yes those are black trainers, shorts and a t-shirt.
We may be plying our trade at the pinnacle of cricket (Wiltshire County Cricket League Division 4) but we have not forgotten our roots.
Well, well, well. Where to begin at incredibly special day at Spaniels Bridge.
Batted first, put on 338, with super Phil Alsop recording 167 (more on that later) and Tommy 121, putting 285 on for the first pole.
I’m return, Sherston Magna all out on 106, with Brammers taking 5.
Stan moves to 239*, which according to Brother Owen passes his (201) and Tom’s top score (235).
Don’t even think about it
@BraveHundred
- he bloody hates the Hundred.
@SussexCCC
he might be available for the odd game as long as it’s not Saturday or Wednesday and some Sundays
A very special win yesterday for the boys in a rain-affected game.
Batted first, 210/4 from 34 overs.
Nalgo finished 129/7 from 20, 35 runs short of their revised D/L target.
Still third but little in it at the top of the table. 💥💥💥
10 first-class tons for Tom - 6 of which have been since he joined Sussex last summer.
One hell of a statement to the selectors at BCCC. The last time he was picked was just over two years ago on a Sunday at Sutton Benger - we suspect his agent will be on the phone to Stan.
Take a bow, Tom Alsop! 👏
A boundary from the final delivery of the session takes him through to a magnificent hundred, the milestone coming up in 153 deliveries 💯🙌
292-3 (64 overs)
📺 & Hampshire Cricket App 📲
The final team sheet of the season.
We take on Swindon Nalgo 2s away from home in an absolute belter.
Both teams are already promoted, and both can win the title.
Wish us luck 🤞🤞🤞
Oi oiii!!
Keevil all out for 94, Lever taking 4 poles.
We chased it down with 8 in the bank in less than 10 overs, including Stan hitting an unbeaten 50 from just 16 deliveries.
4/4 baby 🚨🚨🚨
The boys march on.
A narrow 3 wicket win chasing 177. Not pretty, but got the job done.
Brammers and Quigley superb.
Cheers
@BiddestoneCC
for being great hosts!
Get in! 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks so much for this generous donation
@Potternecc
, it’s extremely appreciated by all of the lads.
Difficult to fathom how much funny content is going to come from this. Followers, expect a feed exclusively of drop catches, wides and run-outs next season.
We are please to announce that following a draw last night, our chairman
@fredkerley
picked out number 11 which was
@BishopsCCC
as the winners to our
@PitchVision
giveaway.
Please drop us a message and we can arrange collection.
James Coles, Ollie Robinson and Tom Alsop have all been selected in the 2024 Vitality Wildcard for The Hundred. 📝
James has been picked up by the Southern Brave with Ollie and Tom selected by Trent Rockets. 👏
Well, well, well - it would appear it's that time of year again. ☕️
Tomorrow, our Div 3 campaign gets underway as we host
@WhiteHorse_CC
at Spaniels Bridge.
Here's our starting XI.
Get on down, badgers. We've even got a bar now.
Another Cannings player on the periphery of the Wallop squad making some big strides today. Owen picked up three wickets for Oxford Uni vs Cambridge at Lord’s with some of the firm cheering him on.
Impressive, sure. But can he do it on a cold Wednesday night in Collingbourne?
We finished the season on Saturday with a juicy win vs
@Potternecc
. The big highlight was Lever whacking his second ton of the season without giving up a chance.
Been a special year for BCCC with big things to come.
It was an extra special day yesterday as we had a minute’s silence and wore black armbands to appreciate the life of Lynn Hicks, mother of our beloved player Ollie, who sadly passed away last week.
One big family at the Cannings - we love you mate. ❤️
Proper tight affair. Finished 198/9 with Stan Alsop hitting 60-odd. They finished 152/9, with 3 wickets from our Aussie star Azza, Lever and 2 from Bram.
Azza (The Horn) also took an absolute stunner at cover that will be talked about at BCCC for years.
So good to be back. 💥
Boooom!!!!!
What a game and what a day up the bridge. We finished 204/7 from our 45, and a valiant effort in the field saw them all out for 150-odd.
Game on a knife-edge throughout but we got the job done.
Incredible effort from everyone - thanks to those who came along ❤️
12 Ws in a row. Will it be Friday the 13th as we play the holding champs? Unlikely, but we do believe in fairies.
Tomorrow’s got the feel of a third round FA cup tie: nothing to lose, apart from some marbles.
Come down to
@Potternecc
and support the boys, we’ll need all of you
Our number 3
@HuwboBoyle
was under incredible pressure before this season to keep his place in the order.
“Drop him” they say. “Move him down the order”.
Safe to say he’s answered his critics.
#𝗪𝗖𝗖𝗟 𝗛𝗢𝗡𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗦 𝗕𝗢𝗔𝗥𝗗 - 𝗝𝗨𝗡𝗘 𝟰𝗧𝗛
Week 5 sees an incredible spell of 9 overs, 5 maidens, 7/4 from Harry Easton of
@BishopsCCC
take the top spot on the
#WCCL
honours board - that'll take some beating!
The lads are back in action in
@WCCLCricket
Div 6 tomorrow.
We face Chippenham 4s (A), who currently top the table.
Two changes:
➡️ Alfie Williams, James Breese
⬅️ Harry Easton, Tommy Joyce
'Mon the boys!
Here we goooo! 🚨
Our
@WCCLCricket
Division 4 campaign gets underway tomorrow, featuring a lovely away trip to
@HintonCCC
. Fingers crossed it stays dry.
Come down and support the boys.
Here’s how we’re lining up:
Oh my Lord 🔥
Massive respect to John Collins Sport for dripping us out in these bad boys just two days before our league debut.
Superb price and rapid turnaround.
If anyone’s after something similar we’d be more than happy to pass over his details😇
Time to formally introduce Aaron “The Horn” Horsburgh.
On Stan’s travels, the skipper stayed within Azza’s family abode - and now the Alsops are returning the favour.
Just 18-years-old, this fine young man has slotted right in. We’re very grateful to have him for the summer.
After viewing this footage of Tom exactly a decade ago today, it’s hard to believe he’s not working at Bikes’N’Boards rather than scoring tons in the County Championship.
Yesss c’mon our man Alfie Williams representing the Cannings badge at the Hackney Half today.
Just look at that dibbly dobbler bolt. You got this Ninerrrrrrr!!!
Alright Div 3, how's it goin' alright?
Early Chrimbo present for the badgers of Bishops with the fixtures now being released for the 2024 campaign.
Some juicy games on this list - just 130 days until the festivities begin.
Another great day for Tom ‘Alsop’, another dark day for BCCC.
After years of Stan lobbying with offers of doner kebabs, Malboro Golds and black trainers, he’s only gone and penned a deal with Sussex.
Some of the lads will be at the Oval tomorrow reminding him of his roots.
We are delighted to announce the permanent signing of Tom Alsop. 🙌
Having initially joined on a temporary basis, Tom will become a permanent member of the squad once his current loan deal concludes. 🤝
Looking forward to the rest of the season and beyond, Tom. 🌟
#GOSBTS
Get in there!!! Tail wagged and we got to 154, followed by an incredible bowling display - 95 run win to start life in Div 4.
Tristan, Mel, Lever and Cutler not giving an inch with the ball. Russell Hartey inbound.
Pin about to get pulled 💣💣💣
🤫
