Lying on the ground made this male Citrine Wagtail (

) seemingly undeterred by my presence and as a result was able to capture this very close encounter with the “Flying Lemon” [].
Camping this weekend in the

at 2400m the forests are alive with birdsong none more so than this Whistler’s Warbler (

) with its greyish-green wings, yellow underparts and unbroken pale eyering [].
Despite a number of leech bites on my legs, this image of a male Ward’s Trogon (

The Chestnut-headed Tesia (

) is a ground-dwelling warbler that rarely leaves the safety of deep vegetation but when it does venture out into the open its plumage is really something to behold combining lime, yellow and rufous tones [].

This close encounter today in West Papua with this Feline Owlet-Nightjar, a species related to the nightjars but with an upright stance like an owl and cat-like facial whiskers, has to rank as one of my top all-time birding experiences here in Asia

A displaying male Western Parotia (

) taken this morning, one of Papua New Guinea’s Birds of Paradise, and showing well his wiry head plumes, white forehead, blue eyes, iridescent golden breast band, and umbrella-shaped courting dance [].
In the distance something moved. The setting was Hong Kong’s famous Mai Po Nature Reserve in South China. Closer inspection proved it to be a Pintail Snipe. Creeping up even further allowed this shot taken no more than 10m away from the bird [].
Corn Crakes are often heard but notoriously difficult to see, preferring instead the safety of tall grass. Visited this meadow in
#Xinjiang
Province on numerous occasions, and just once, for no more than a few seconds, the
#bird
revealed itself [].

Province. It is a pied

of shaded forest streams within the Himalayan region with a white forehead and spotting on its black back like a constellation of stars within the night sky [].
The Henderson’s Ground Jay is a near endemic

bird. This image was taken today in the desert surrounding

as the
#bird
was taking to the air from this perch showing well its pied wings, cream underparts and strong curved bill [].
