These phrases get our prospects’ immediate attention. • Before I show you how this works, let me tell you what happened to me. • There are two types of people in the world … • Let me give you the bad news first. • Here is the short story. If we don’t have their attention, there is no need to continue.

Don’t listen to what they say Our distributor says, “Oh yeah. I really want a big business.” But should we believe what someone says? We invite our distributor to come to our Saturday training to learn the skills of what to say to prospects. The distributor replies to our invitation by saying, “Oh, Saturday, huh? Gosh, that is the weekend and I need to rest after a hard week of work.” Our mother was right when she said, “Don’t believe what people say. Simply observe what they do.

Opening sentence idea #1: “If you have a few minutes, I would like to tell you how you can quit your job and still make more money.”

Take a hint When prospects don’t call us back, it is because … they don’t want to talk to us. Instead of trying to create a new script for our follow-up call, why don’t we do this instead? Ask ourselves, “What did we say or do in the initial conversation that caused our prospect to avoid us in the future?”

I used this “Mini-Story” to sponsor my shy and scared former co-worker. This story qualified me for the company car program 30 days later: “We want to be rich and successful. But when we are young, no one wants to hire us and give us a chance. Our secret solution? To start our own part-time business and to build it into an empire. We will feel great that we did this on our own and we didn’t have to ask anyone’s permission.”

I used this “Mini-Story” to sponsor a skeptical prospect who became one of my first leaders. This qualified me for free European holidays, and doubled my bonus checks: “Ever wonder how fast you could get rich if you had two paychecks? The first paycheck pays your bills, and the second paycheck would be for investments. That would add up fast.” • • Total time: Less than 30 seconds.

It’s a huge problem!!! I did a training meeting for a nutrition company in Sweden. Some distributors came late and complained, “There is no parking!” Well, the training was in a meeting room in a health club, and of course, it’s January. Everybody is at the health club in January. They are going to work on their New Year’s goal to get in shape and lose weight ... for only a few more days. Next month, the parking lot will be empty. So, there are two types of networkers in the world. Those that complain, “There is no parking” ... and those networkers that say, “Hey, look at all these prospects who want to get healthy!” Yes, some people look for reasons to fail. Others look for problems, and they know that in every problem, somebody is going to make a lot of money solving it. In network marketing, we solve people’s problems. We help them lose weight, have better skin, save money, get healthier, look better, travel, earn money and more. That’s why we earn money, big money. So the next time we see a problem, let’s think to ourselves, “That’s a great opportunity for someone to earn big money solving that problem. Problems are our friends.

Riches are measured in money. [Insert evil, greedy laugh.] Wealth is measured in owning our time. [Oh ...] Are we chasing the wrong thing?

Planting seeds. While standing by the coffee machine at work, we say to our coworker: "What if we could work out of our homes? What would we do with the extra two hours of commuting time we would save? Then, wait for our coworker’s suggestions. These suggestions will start the dreaming phase of a better life. In time, our prospect will want to know how to avoid commuting with our opportunity. And now we have planted that seed. Our prospect might ask us about our opportunity now, in the near future, or never. But if we plan enough seeds, some will grow.

“Willpower is for losers. Systems are for winners!” I saw this quote by David Frey. A lot of truth to this quote. The problem with willpower is that we have to make a conscious effort for every decision we make. Systems are like habits. We do habits consistently. If we perform a prospecting activity consistently, and with skill, our payoff will be more and better prospects. This gives us a chance for more presentations and enrollments. What are some examples of prospecting habits? * Passing out five samples a day. * Making three new friends on Facebook every day. * Attending a networking event every week. * Taking 15 minutes out of our lunch break to talk to new people. Habits are easier if they fit who we are. Some of us enjoy person-to-person contact, while others prefer online prospecting. We want to make sure we create habits around our preferred method of prospecting.

What to say to prospects? If we have a “more direct” personality and like to get to the point fast, we could say this: “There are two types of people in the world. “Those that had all their dreams sucked out by their vampire, dream-killing employer, and those who still want to do something with their lives.” This statement will help open up our prospect’s mind, so our prospect can lean forward, and look for reasons why our opportunity will work.

Cruel advice? I get a lot of calls asking for network marketing advice. People ask if they should try a certain strategy, how certain leaders become successful, which type of presentation gives the best results, and what is my advice on their new brochure. And who are most of these callers? Many (but not all) fall into one category. They are people who spend time investigating, analyzing, and looking for an easy, cheap way to become an overnight success. They find it easier and safer to stay in a state of continuous investigation to avoid actually doing something to build their business. My advice to many of these callers: "Go out and actually DO something. Maybe even make your first prospecting presentation. Even if you make 20 more calls investigating networking theories, nothing will happen." Okay, I'm not very popular with some of the callers, but I do feel I should at least tell them the truth. What about you? Do you have distributors who do everything EXCEPT contact prospects? Are they always putting together a new brochure or presentation that will fix all the problems of networking? Are they so busy with "busy work" that they don't have time to recruit? What are you going to tell them? Are you going to say, "Nice brochure. You're really accomplishing a lot." Or, are you going to tell them the truth? Will you say, "Go out and actually DO something that will build your business. Make a phone call. Make a presentation. Sign up a new distributor."

Why don't all of our prospects join? Q. What do all our presentations have in common? A. They all offer time freedom and money freedom. We will never have a prospect tell us: "Oh, I don't want to join because I don't want any of that time freedom or money freedom. I think I'd like more debt, less money, and more time at work." Sounds silly, doesn't it? Well, if all of our prospects want time freedom and money freedom, and your presentation offers time freedom and money freedom, then why don't all of our prospects join? Because they don't have the confidence that they can personally achieve time freedom and money freedom with our opportunity. Sure, we can do it, but they don't think they can do it. Now here is the key. When prospects don't have the confidence that they have the skills necessary for our opportunity, here is what most people do: They start introducing new benefits. They tell the prospect about three-way calls, nice brochures, perfect videos, fancy meetings, car bonuses, and lots of other nice benefits. But they are missing the point. The prospect doesn't think he can do it, so it doesn't matter how good the benefits are. The solution? Instead of talking about more benefits, concentrate on showing our prospect how SIMPLE it can be to do our business. Maybe you can give our prospect a "One-Minute Presentation." 😀 Give our prospect confidence that he can be successful in our business. That's what is holding our prospect back -- confidence.

Q. Why does our networking business grow so slowly? A. Because when we tell our friend about our network marketing opportunity, here is what happens: * Our friend goes home and thinks about it. * One week later our friend joins our business. * The following weekend our friend comes to training. * Next week our friend takes a holiday with his family. * Later our friend talks to a relative. * The relative thinks about the business opportunity for a week. * The relative joins. * The relative orders some product. * The relative uses the products for one month. * The relative tells a neighbor. * The neighbor waits until the time is right. * The neighbor joins. * The neighbor reads the distributor manual for three weeks. * The neighbor tells a co-worker. * The co-worker tells her husband. * The co-worker looks at the catalog. * The co-worker gets a promotion. * The co-worker becomes president of the company. * The board of directors fires the co-worker. * The co-worker comes to our opportunity meeting. * The co-worker joins our opportunity, etc. What is happening? Networking. This is how networking works in the real world. It takes time for our recommendation to go from person to person. It takes time for each person to digest and make a decision on our networking recommendation. This is why it takes months and months (and sometimes years) for our network organization to grow. And it all can start with a whisper.

We have two choices in life: #1. To be under the influence of others, or #2. To be an influencer. Of course, we want to be #2, an influencer. But how do we get there? If we were not born with money and power, we will have to learn the skills to become an influencer. Skills will be our shortcut. (Or we could read the book, "Create Influence: 10 Ways to Impress and Guide Others.") 😀

Do we check what we say? A soymilk product comes in a quart carton. Near the opening are the directions: “Shake well and buy often.” Not quite subliminal ... but I bet these few well-chosen words help repeat sales. Do we check the messages we give to our prospects? For instance, we might say: “Try a bottle of our vitamins and see if you feel better.” But what would happen if we said: “It takes 90 days to rebuild your body. Take our vitamins for 90 days and see the difference they make. Hmmm. Now we're selling a three-month supply or commitment instead of just a 30-day supply. Little changes in what we say can mean a big difference in our business.
