We're proud that West Yorkshire's buses are coming into franchised control. But while we wait to move over, services continue to decline. The Mayor should give passengers the chance to elect representatives to fight our corner on the Transport Comittee.

The head of the private bus company 'confederation' dismisses any responsibility for privatisation in our awful bus system. Thankfully, we only have to look at areas with public control and ownership to see they perform better.

A petition to reinstate the Number 7 Bus back to a half hourly service has been set up by a couple in Thorner. It is not the only route to be slowly cut back. Yesterday, 13 services in Leeds faced similar reductions! Sign the No. 7 petition here:

Under current rules, private firms are allowed to slash and burn our services. Mayor @TracyBrabin is right to be wrestling back a degree of control through franchising from 2027. But we need @ArrivaYorkshire to reverse this terrible decision NOW too.

West Yorkshire will not begin commissioning our newly publicly controlled services until the start of the next Parliament. Candidates for Mayor should commit to run the new services through a council owned operator.
Sadiq Khan has pledged to create a new London bus company which would look at bringing routes into public ownership.
