Go @EuropaClipper and HUGE congrats to the @NASAJPL, @JHUAPL, and partner teams! Very excited to be underway to Europa! 🚀🛰️🥳 The @EhlmannLab is part of the MISE instrument team and we look forward to some beautiful spectra of this ocean world. Ad astra, Clipper!
In case you missed it: Today, NASA's largest planetary spacecraft launched on a 5.5-year, 1.8-billion mile voyage to Jupiter's moon Europa. Next up... Mars gravity assist in March 2025! Here are some highlights from today's @EuropaClipper launch 🚀

Congrats to @Caltech @EhlmannLab alum Dr. Ellen Leask on her important findings for Mars history: sulfates connected with basin volcanoes, large ash deposits, late history saline waters -- Terra Sirenum holds an amazing record of Mars climate! Check out the paper 👇
A 2Gyr History of Water-Alteration in Terra Sirenum, Mars: Volcanism's Influence on Al Clay Formation and Chemically Distinct Waters Forming Sulfates and Chlorides Into the Amazonian. Thick deposits with Al clays thin with distance from Arsia Mons.

Thanks to Laura Lee @NAU for her work on @LunarTrailblazr ! In addition to her science, Laura is training to be a Campaign Science Lead who will lead targeting of images at the Moon
Emitted light obscures the signature of water in reflectance spectra, which is a challenge for scientists looking for water. Laura Lee, a PhD candidate at NAU, is applying new spectral models address this challenge and is our #TrailblazerOfTheWeek! 🔗:

Former @Caltech @EhlmannLab postdoc Lucia Mandon traces more oxidized minerals in part of the Jezero crater delta relative to the floor or later rocks seen by @NASAPersevere in the upper delta
Variable Iron Mineralogy and Redox Conditions Recorded in Ancient Rocks Measured by In Situ Visible/Near-Infrared Spectroscopy at Jezero Crater, Mars. Strata at the fan front saw stronger oxidative water‐ rock interactions vs the upper fan & crater floor.

New paper from @Caltech @EhlmannLab grad student Yu Yu Phua et al shows the hydration state of sulfates in Mars rocks seen by @NASAPersevere. More dehydrated than @MarsCuriosity rocks (weird), and phases found indicate salty fluids for at least some of the waters in Jezero crater
Characterizing Hydrated Sulfates and Altered Phases in Jezero Crater Fan and Floor Geologic Units With SHERLOC on Mars 2020. Hydrated Ca‐sulfates are found only in the upper fan.
