The reason why Furiosa doesn't feel like a followup to Fury Road is because it was always The Animatrix, a cool supplement that was supposed to enhance the core product. But because Hollywood's gonna Hollywood it ended up getting released 10 years later instead of within a month.

(2) The thing about Fury Road is that it was born from an explosion of creative ideas fleshed out between Miller his co-writers, and concept artists. So many ideas that they sought a way to use it all and play around with other fascinations that Miller had been toying with.
