The last two days, we hosted an interdisciplinary workshop on gender at NYUAD, bringing together insights from Economics and Psychology. What an incredible experience to learn from scholars across both fields! It brought back some hope given the current political landscape 🫶🏾

⚡️¿Cómo afectará la IA Generativa a las desigualdades laborales? ⚡️ 🥸 Esta es la pregunta que nos llevó a lanzar este experimento (RCT) en @EsadeEcPol en el que asignamos de forma aleatoria a 140 estudiantes la disponibilidad de ChatGPT para preparar un torneo de debates. 🦾 Los resultados que encuentro son sorprendentes: ChatGPT tiene un efecto muy fuerte en mejorar los resultados (evaluados por unos jueces independientes) del grupo de tratamiento, pero solamente entre los estudiantes con más habilidad, receptores de beca de excelencia o con buenos resultados en la primera ronda de debate (previa a la intervención). 👀 Este resultado va en contra de los primeros resultados en la literatura experimental sobre IAGen que apuntan a una “comprensión de productividad” en diferentes tareas, en las que la IA ayuda más a los que tienen menor habilidad, generando un efecto igualador. 🧠 La razón que sugiero que podría estar explicando esta diferencia de mis resultados con la literatura tiene que ver con el tipo de tareas: en tareas escritas, acotadas, en las que no se requieren habilidades sociales muy altas, la IA reduce desigualdad en productividad. Sin embargo, en tareas más impredecibles, verbales - más cercanas a las interacciones reales en cualquier empresa - la IAGen tenderá a favorecer más a los individuos con más habilidades (como en anteriores olas de robotización). 🤓 Si estos resultados se replican en diferentes entornos, pueden tener implicaciones relevantes para la comprensión del impacto de estas tecnologías en el empleo y las desigualdades. 👉 Aquí podéis leer el #ResearchBrief que resume la investigación: 👉 Aquí el working paper académico: 👉 Y aquí el vídeo de resumen 👇🏻
