where can we send the contributions to support legal, medical and other costs for protestors.
We owe a debt of gratitude to the courageous people who have shown up for the protest ✊🏿✊🏿
I watched my father as he lay in the intensive care unit, with very slight movements of his heavily sedated body. But I smiled faintly, when I turned to look out the window and saw a rainbow in the sky. God knows I need a miracle🙏🏿.
Alan,
Stop the nonsense! Kenzo is M7's response to Bobi Wine. Kenzo was co-opted to convert artistes into weapons of mass seduction in a fight for control to inform public opinion. Kenzo's proximity to power serves a rotten system that oppresses many Ugandans. Nothing admirable.
All theee people bashing and laughing at

Today's duty station. We are committed to audit every detention center in Kampala and ensure that all protesters are arraigned in court for accountability.

Dear Lands Minister,
Cancellation of a title acquired thru fraud is a preserve for the High Court upon filing of a suit under Section 176 & 177 of the Registration of Titles Act, Cap.230. (See the decision in Hilda Wilson vs. Home Investment Trust; S.C.C.A. No.15 of 2017.)
I visited Nabisunsa Girls School to convey assurances that no body will take their school land. Any overlapping titles over the school land to be canceled immediately!
In his ruling delivered on October 7, 2024 in Namale Desire & Another vs. Horeb Services Uganda Ltd & Another; HCMC No.21 of 2023, Justice Boniface Wamala declared that companies licensed to export labour are responsible for the safety and welfare of the externalised workers👌🏿.
I attended Makerere Law School. I voted for Oundo. My faith in his ability to serve is well placed. I never judge anyone based on the schools they attended. LDC equalised us. We shld therefore dead this unhealthy contest btwn MUK & other universities bcs it perpetrates snobbery.
I survived last evening. I was detained for only 30 minutes. But some p'ple were ransomed to their relatives on a cash bond of 200,000 UGX. I saw a Mobile Money receipt. No one signed a Police Form 18. Rogue law enforcers turned the pro-Bobi protest into a cash-minting exercise.
Dear Advocates,
Uganda Law Society is an integral part of civil society in Uganda. The role of civil society is to demand accountability.
Show up for the detained protesters and secure bond and other pre-trial remedies.

Y'all! I beat covid-19. I got a negative test from my 1st review. I am excited. But I am told that a negative test is not the end of the journey. Some symptoms, like extreme tiredness & brain fog, continue for weeks or months beyond the initial illness. It's called long covid😱.
Cash rich is a risky status in an economy with a depreciating currency. The currency devaluation in 1987 affected so many cash rich individuals. I handled several outstanding pension claims from that era in my formative years. Cash savings are risky👇🏿.
He has walked the corridors of Finance and Corporate Ladder in an amazing way.
Loved and Respected by all.
When he speaks, we listen and take notes.
Francis Kamulegeya, ladies and Gentlemen giving out life long lessons about Money.
Young advocates,
If your case is fixed for hearing at 9:00 am, then be at court by 7:00 am. Arrive sufficiently in advance of the trial to go through your file and resolve any outstanding preliminary matters. Remember the outcome of a trial is not up to luck.
Kind regards.
Getting a hearing date at Uganda's Court of Appeal is a real struggle. We concluded the conferencing in 2019. But I have walked, walked and walked to follow up on the appeal. But I can't show any (positive) results for my efforts. I am just so tired😔.
Advocates should stop patronising members of the public. Members of the public are future colleagues, clients, court users and civil society partners in the struggle for accountable power. The public's interest in the affairs of Uganda Law Society is a mark of civic awareness👌🏿.
The cantankerous village drunk who condemns the city-dwelling children for having neglected their deceased father while he was alive speaks the truth, but he may not be the best person to administer the deceased's estate. Two things can be true at the same time. 1/
Here's the controversy. Our current leaders have terrorised local artistes who followed the foot steps of Tupac to record conscious music that denounces corruption, nepotism, tribalism, the politics of patronage and etc.
I was in 2nd Year of University when the greatest rapper that has ever lived died. A poet and revolutionary. Long live Tupac Shakur! I hope Uganda will honor him as it prepares to host the next MTV Africa Music Awards!
A visit to a police station to bond a client will humble any lawyer in Uganda. Our officers are sadists who derive pleasure from humiliating anyone who is mobilised to get a suspect out of police custody. We are frustrated thru long waiting times, but am patient as a vulture.
I lost a case at the Court of Appeal. It was an almighty defeat by the Attorney General; all three judges rubbished my submissions. I want to cry but my eyes are dry as a bone. Anyway, we live to fight another day💪🏿.

Magistrates don't read! In the case of Global Center Ltd t/a Costco Supermarket vs. Price Costco International; HCMA No.766 of 2023, the Hon. Lady Justice Patricia Mutesi held that the absence of written instructions could not per se imply that counsel had no instructions.
Lack of certificate of instructions to the lawyers is the basis on which the Magistrate has declined to hear the bail applications. Remanded up to 31st. The Judiciary is a joke! It was on record that the Police declined the accused from accessing lawyers.

Lawyers should stop patronising the bar of public opinion for castigating Judge Julia Sebutinde. Lawyers should stop acting like the merchant gilds that harassed non-gildsmen. It's a mark of civic consciousness when lay individuals take a genuine interest in legal proceedings.
Ali,
Stop writing nonsense! Uganda Law Society is part of the civil society landscape in Uganda. The concept of civil society is not limited to NGOs. Uganda Law Society meets the criteria for inclusion in civil society because it engages with the state to foster accountability.
To my learned friends
@PhillipKarugaba
@bkabumba
,I respectfully differ!
@ug_lawsociety
is not CSO .It is an association of lawyers! Even Saccos,Nigiinas,tweziike vilage association have minimum rules for thier leaders!
I arrived very early at court. I noticed a female clerk mopping the chambers. A lot of women are forced to engage in "office housework". It's a hidden barrier that keeps women from ascending to more senior roles because it's hard to negotiate such tasks into a promotion.
When accused persons are arraigned with offences grounded on defective charge sheets, the Magistrate should strike out the charge sheet (s) and issue an order of release from police custody. Don't abuse court process by remanding in lieu of further instructions from higher ups.
AGORA is working tirelessly to solidify the campaign for accountable power as a unifying factor for all persons regardless of one's social standing, political affiliation, tribe, creed, race & etc. Sadly, the safe corridor merchants are determined to blunt AGORA's effectiveness.
I was released from police custody without charge about an hour ago. Phew! Thank you everyone who reached out to me. I am now sheltering from further police brutality in a bed bug infested room. I'll travel back home tomorrow (In sha Allah🙏).
Bwowe,
Unlike Mpuuga's 'special service award', emoluments for Leader of the Opposition are not hidden under innocuous headings to pre-empt scrutiny. We reject your efforts to preserve the accountability agenda in formaldehyde.
RT. Hon.

Isn’t this a waste of taxpayers money?
On April 7, at Kalerwe, as the LOP headed to Lubiri for the Kabaka birthday run, a truck rammed into the rear side of the LOP's car.
Mpuuga's Service Award was hidden under an innocuous vote for "ex-gratia payments" to avoid scrutiny in Parliament. The scheme was hatched by "guardians" of the Consolidated Fund. Sadly, Justice Singiza declined to inquire into the functions of the Executive and Parliament.
Former Leader of Opposition,
@MathiasMpuuga

Here to announce my new appointment as the Uganda Law Society Human Rights, Constitutionalism & Governance co-convener.
It's an exciting time to serve the Society during an election year.
Lawyers have a unique obligation to support a setting in which democracy can flourish.
Uganda's Judiciary undermines its credibility when courts are turned into a Moscow show trial to carry out the commands of the powerholders. Judicial Officers should devote themselves to the principles of justice. Don't subject the arraigned protesters to continual revilement.
Isaac,
On July 23, 2019 Uganda's Supreme Court delivered its decision on the appropriation of funds charged to the Consolidated Fund in the case of Parliamentary Commission vs. Mwesigye Wilson; Const. Appeal No.8 of 2016. Mpuuga's award exceeded Parliament's budgetary autonomy.
The issue of 500m was legally done. The money was passed by the parliamentary commission. The accusation levied against Ow’ek.
@MathiasMpuuga
is not a legal one but a moral one. Ignore those throwing around the term corruption, the ingredients are lacking.
School fees cleared. Shopping done. We are now waiting to return to school tomorrow. God protect our li'l man as he transitions from primary to secondary school at SMACK🙏🏿.
Hon. Asuman Basalirwa is a lawyer and a human rights activist. I listened to his opening remarks at Makerere University (SoL). He is a personification of schooled bigotry and cultural relativism. His views on pederasts are based on an inadequate basis of intellectual authority.
I had a very long day. I tested positive for covid-19! I was devastated by the news from my routine check up. I sat at the reception, with an open mouth, and watched the delivery team thru a window as they brought in oxygen cylinders for use at the hospital. It's terrifying😱.
Interestingly, the Minister of Finance reviewed Hon. Basalirwa's Bill and issued a Certificate of Financial Implications to indicate that the said Bill had no funding and budgetary implications👇🏿.

The Minister of State for Finance, Henry Musasizi has revealed that the enactment of the Anti-Homosexuality Act has created external financial risks & uncertainty for Uganda, thus prompting Gov’t to intensify negotiations with World Bank to lift the ban on financing new projects
In a judgment delivered on January 24, 2024, the Court of Appeal upheld a decision in the first election petition I handled in my practice. I had to learn on the job because I was green as a baby leaf. I read 457 cases to get my bearings. This experience was very rewarding🙏🏿.
Young lawyers should understand that the Courts of Judicature of Uganda are not a training ground👇🏿.
Spend at least 3 years practising before the Magisterial Bench before you appear at the High Court (and beyond).
It helps to hone your skills. We don't want to chaperone you.
It's an absurd judgement, like the decision in Julius Rwabinumi vs. Hope Bahimbisomwe; C.A.C.A. No. 30 of 2007. Estate property is like a floating charge that crystallises upon distribution of the estate by a lawfully appointed administrator, or executor of a will under probate.
The elitism in rugby is unmistakable. Some folks don't want to open the sport to the less privileged. Kyadondo RFC's community programme to benefit children from slum areas is still frowned upon. The banter is a disguised expression of prejudice in a cloak of fun and frivolity👇🏿.
Dear Members of the Public,
You cannot administer an estate in perpetuity. Our succession law was revised in 2022 to enforce the aforementioned principle. The purpose of a legal representative is to distribute the property and file a final account to close out the matter👇🏿.
@Rachealrac2
It's not possible. When a man is aroused, the bladder shuts off to pave way for his man juice. That's why a men struggle to pee with a hard on. You have to stand at a particular angle and concentrate the mind of urinating.

I had to wait for ten years after enrolling in 2014 to appear in a substantive capacity as counsel-in-personal conduct of a matter at the Supreme Court. I was therefore surprised to learn that some advocates leapfrogged from LDC to the apex court with their first PC. It's crazy!

This letter-lecture is embarrassing to a political party. (If any).

It's okay to keep quiet when you don't understand something. Americans of African descent refused to leave because they built the US with their free labour for nearly 400 years. That gives them a legitimate claim to every inch of that nation's propsperity.
I am sure the Editor-in-Chief of the Vision Group of newspapers is too powerless to rein in Ofwono Opondo.
I have therefore decided to dispose of my meagre shares in NVPPCL. I'll use the proceeds to buy tissue & wipe my butthole.
I can't support anyone who attacks the Kabaka.

Joseph Kyazze assisted counsel for the appellants in Philip Ddumba & Another vs. David Arthur Bagambe; SCCA No.9 of 2022. His deep knowledge of land transactions (and appellate litigation) delivered a massive victory for the appellants at the apex court after 33 years of pain👌🏿.

Entrepreneurs in America can grow their businesses from the proverbial garage because their society is organised in an efficient manner (pluralism). But it's hard to thrive in a repressive society where leaders are afraid of the creative destruction that sustains innovation👇🏿.
Jurisprudence was so abstract. I still recall the moments at campus when I struggled to understand Western philosophy. Jurisprudence was taught with a presumption of underlying knowledge which the students lacked. We lacked sufficient preparation for the rigours of a hard course.
The coffee deal revived a discussion on crop finance & agrarian politics in Uganda👇🏿.
Peasants form the backbone of our agrarian economy. They produce the cash crops but remain on the margins of the economy
It's a socio-economic system we inherited from the colonial era.

Happy holidays to y'all. Today was my last work day of the year. I took a lot of risks this year. I quit my job to support civil society activism with my limited private means, and the gamble paid off. Now I just want to go to a spa and get a full body massage tomorrow👌🏿.
"....it is of fundamental importance that justice should not only be done, but should manifestly and undoubtedly be seen to be done."~Lord Hewart, [1924] 1KB 256.
In Uganda, the conduct of the Magisterial Bench in criminal proceedings leaves a lot to be desired.
Justice Douglas Singiza behaved like Judge John Finch, who gave the ship-money judgment to fortify the arbitrary royal rule of King Charles I of England. The English Civil War broke out in 1642 because the Stuart monarchs underestimated England's desire for accountable power.
I agree. The failure to investigate any case involving a soldier or police officer relating to the pro-Bobi protests in Nov. 2020 shows a disregard for rule of law and a govt unconcerned about people's lives. The victim's families deserve justice 4 the deaths of their loved ones.
Legal practice is a lifetime of learning. Be patient as a loving parent to ease the transition into the workplace. Empathy is a vital trait for any leader to foster overall job satisfaction, productivity, and mental wellbeing.

"The War Victim" is a prominent wooden sculpture depicting a wounded person with an amputated leg at Makerere Main Library.
It speaks of the turbulent times of the 1970s.
This sculpture is an important testimony of our spirit of endurance, especially during trying times.

Busy preparing to argue election petition appeals next week before the Court of Appeal. It's been a crazy week. I have read a lot of autobiographical books on the politics in Uganda, but handling election disputes gave me a lot of insight into a lot of things.
Law requires professional interpretation, especially judge made law. But that should not justify a monopoly on civic consciousness. I am glad that lay individuals have taken a genuine interest in the latest ICJ ruling. We need a broad coalition of forces to fight injustice💪🏿.
I'll skip Nyege Nyege due to the fragile security situation in the country. I am sure the US has access to credible intel. I don't want to end up like Stalin when he ignored the warnings given by Soviet spies about the impending Nazi invasion. But I had a great time last year👇🏿.

I received my first treatment for covid-19 today. My employer & the health workers were so, so helpful. The fever & flu are gone. However, I lost my sense of smell & taste. My taste buds are as dead as a dodo, so I just eat to fill my stomach, like a bottomless pit. So joyless!
Up country lawyers abused the lockdown to secure certificates of urgency, and fixed (very contentious) cases for hearing in our absence.

We are returning next week to put an end to this madness at the High Court Circuits.
You're required to file a report with BoU through your local bank if you withdraw an amount exceeding 2,000 USD. It's pretensious prudence considering the amounts transferred on behalf of Queen Anita through various staff accounts.
We strategised for years and today Uganda's Constitutional Court delivered its judgment in Francis Tumwesigye Ateenyi vs. AG; Const. Petition No. 36 of 2018, wherein the court struck down several provisions of the Penal Code Act which criminalised poverty and social status👌🏿.
