As union lawyers, our job is to democratize the law and the process of collective bargaining to make them accessible to the rank-and-file. Our goal should always be to make our role irrelevant through training and education.
Being Jewish is core to my identity. I was raised very religious and was bar mitzvahed at The Wall. Very shortly thereafter it became clear to me that Zionism was not Judaism. For years, my criticism of Zionism branded me a self-hating Jew — nothing could be further from truth.
As a Jewish union-side labor lawyer, I am terrified of the ramifications of Joe Biden’s support for the the ethnic cleaning and genocide of the Palestinian people. Here and abroad. Fire my firm if you disagree. We will be on the right side of history.
If you don’t have a union and are being forced back to work in New York or Florida, you’re welcome to contact my firm to consult pro bono (free) about ways to resist and protect yourself within your legal rights. If you have a union, contact them first.
Nothing is settled law. Unions should prepare for the possibility that the Court revisits concepts like the constitutionality of exclusive representative status in our lifetime. If that happens, unions need to be prepped and experienced in unrelenting direct action.
As a professional negotiator, I can generally say that assassinating the party with whom you are negotiating is generally a sign of bad faith and would be indicia that you lack a true desire to reach an agreement.
Israel, the ILO and the Union for Palestinian Workers have confirmed that Israel is rounding up and detaining Palestinian workers who had work permits in Israel. They are being sent to camps. Labor needs to speak out and condemn this.
“Trade unions, officials and humanitarian organisations have raised concerns for their safety after reports Palestinians with permission to work in Israel were rounded up, arrested and blindfolded before being taken to military camps.”
So many people are going to look back on two years of a pandemic as “the time I organized a union” or “the time I bargained our first contract.” I have a lot of admiration for folks who embrace the struggle in difficult times to make things better for other people.
If employers can recover from workers the economic losses that result from strikes, then the NLRA’s right to strike is nothing more than a right to engage in street theater.
From the time I was a teen, it was clear to me that Zionism was antithetical to the values we were taught in Hebrew school, and at odds with the suffering we had experienced at the hands of others throughout generations.
The atrocities that human beings have suffered upon on one another through the institutions of colonialism and apartheid are inexcusable and condemnable, no matter the identity of the perpetrators.
Trade unionists, people who dedicate their lives to working people and the oppressed, have a moral obligation to stand up and condemn the ethnic cleansing of millions of imprisoned and oppressed Palestinians at the hands of Israel.
More than anything, America needs Depp/Heard-style, round-the-clock news coverage of the Caroline Calloway landlord/tenant case. I’m talking in-depth legal analysis and experts. Editors: consider this a pitch.
Anyone who questions the militancy of workers in the south can take a look at the proud
@UAW
members who answered the call to
#StandUp
at Kentucky Truck at a moment’s notice today when
#Ford
refused to bargain.
#StandUpUAW
Started my day at GM. Ended it at Ford. In awe of the strength, solidarity and resolve of the rank-and-file negotiators at the
@UAW
. I am immensely proud to serve as counsel to fight alongside them.
@anaraintuitive
You can’t self-determine other people out of the homes and off their land. That isn’t self-determination. It is colonialism and occupation. I believe there is at least one commandment that deals with stealing, another killing, etc.
BREAKING: An NLRB judge has paved the way for 280,000 Amazon drivers to unionize.
The judge found that Amazon is a joint employer of these thousands of delivery drivers.
That means the company must recognize and bargain with their workers, who are likely to join the
@Teamsters
.
A privilege to have had the opportunity to work alongside the
@UAW
Ford Department members in their negotiations for this historic agreement. Soon it will be in the hands of the membership.

What a terrible choice
@dnc
to give Uber's counsel who defends a biz model that's left millions of workers in poverty cover as some voice-of-the-voiceless ordinary family member. Who's the "all of us" he thinks is worth fighting for bc it sure isn't the drivers he exploits.
“We proposed an expiration date [that] allows us to strike on May Day. We invite unions to align their contract expiration dates with our own […] If we’re going to truly take on the billionaire class […] it’s important that we not only strike but strike together”
@ShawnFainUAW
I would never deny the Jewish identity of a Zionist. But so many Zionists deny my Jewish identity in response to this — which seems a deeply antisemitic thing to do.
I hope everyone watching
#BadVegan
understands that the real victims were the workers who had their wages stolen. We were proud to help them fight back and get justice. Bosses steal BILLIONS of dollars from workers every year. I have no sympathy - wage thieves belong in jail.
The
@UAW
’s fight to be part of the green energy transition is not only for its members and their families, but for all of us. If there is daylight between labor rights and climate Justice, we won’t have long on this planet. Proud to stand with these brave workers in this fight.
Like, it’s ok to feel betrayed or hurt by your colleague’s actions. Or by anyone. Life is full of conflict! It doesn’t require pathology in every instance. There is such a tendency today to overstate harm in order to feel heard - and that’s actually unfortunate for everyone
I could not be prouder for this union. Historic contract fights and unprecedented organizing drives without forgetting what the role of a union is globally in the pursuit of justice for working people everywhere.
I am proud that the UAW International Union is calling for a ceasefire in Israel and Palestine. From opposing fascism in WWII to mobilizing against apartheid South Africa and the CONTRA war, the
@UAW
has consistently stood for justice across the globe..
Re SCOTUS: the government is not going to protect workers. It exists to protect capital. Workers’ lives are expendable for the sake of profit. We have to protect ourselves. Organize.
Folks should not lose sight of the fact that the historic and unprecedented gains in the
@UAW
contract campaign were won on the picket lines and the shop floor. You can only win what you’re willing to fight for.
BREAKING: TEAMSTERS END 22.4, DEMOLISHING TWO-TIER SYSTEM AT UPS💥
During a hard-fought day at the bargaining table, the

on three major economic issues...

In my experience. union-busting lawyers use the NLRB process to delay — especially when they know they are going to lose. Frivolous defenses, objections and requests for review are common tactics to deny voting rights to employees who want a union.
“Starbucks keeps raising this same issue for every store that files for an election around the country, which the NLRB already ruled on. It’s a waste of time and resources and it has to end now," says barista and
@SBWorkersunited
activist Colin Cochran
Any client who takes issue with their Jewish labor lawyer’s militant opposition to the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people can send me the forwarding address of where I can send their files.
Since everyone is doing a 2021 recap, he’s what I’m proud of: My firm played a small part in helping hundreds of workers organize unions and hundreds more achieve collective bargaining agreements.
@MountSinaiNYC
People know what you charge them and how little of that goes toward having enough staff to treat them. Stop profiting off of the exploitation of nurses. I’d say you make me sick, but you’d probably bill me for that.
Democrats had ample opportunity to reinforce labor rights when they controlled govt. They declined to do so while taking union $ for campaigns. Now, like the right to choose, the right to strike is threatened by SCOTUS b/c of the Dems’ failure to fulfill their promises to workers
“We processed this almost like a trauma,” Kornfeld explained. “It really rocked our word, but also the ramifications were so clear. I don’t think that I really ever stopped to emotionally process it. Even still, I don’t know that I have."
I cannot understand how anyone switches from plaintiff-side employment law or union-side labor law to representing corporations in any capacity. Using the backs of workers as stepping stones is shameless and reprehensible.
Extremely disrespectful for an elected official to suggest workers in her state, her constituents, don’t have minds of their own and don’t know what’s best for them. Shameful.
It should be illegal to use public funds for union busting.
But AL Gov Ivey is doing that today as Alabamians announce their intent to unionize w the
@UAW
This isn't the first time she has directed public funds to breaking the backs of her constituents, as the
@MineWorkers
know
“Trade unions, officials and humanitarian organisations have raised concerns for their safety after reports Palestinians with permission to work in Israel were rounded up, arrested and blindfolded before being taken to military camps.”
Another victory for
@804_local
@Teamsters
at the NLRB.
@NLRB
found that
@UPS
violated federal law by withholding workers’ contact info and time records from the union. UPS argued that we’d use the info to go after the company for wage theft. Guilty conscience? Oh, and, we will 🤡
My great grandfather, who fought Nazis, would be very moved by Zelensky fighting alongside his troops. He would be equally horrified by Ukraine’s incorporation of a Nazi Battalion into its armed forces.
It has been one of the great honors of my career to bargain alongside the members of the
@UAW
in these historic negotiations with the Big 3.
Looking forward to recharging my batteries ;)
“Were there no Israel, there wouldn’t be a Jew in the world that is safe,” Biden says at the White House Hanukkah party as he reaffirms support for Israel against its war against Hamas.
Bangladeshi workers are calling Comrades in the

plant to vote YES to UAW. We have to make management fear union power. Join Union as Union is family. In solidarity from Bangladesh!✊🏽🤞🏾🇧🇩
@IndustrAll_GU
Jim Cramer has to admit it.
"I think that the UAW was underestimated the whole way... Fain just beat them everywhere. It was very much guerilla action. It was very smart... Fain was a great NFL coach who figured out all the weaknesses of the other team and just blew them away."
Helped the
@UAW
file ULPs this morning and then gave a training to the rank-and-file members of a bargaining committee on the importance of filing ULPs. Glad to work with a union that stands up for all workers.
Right-wing populism will prevail with working people as long as the Democrats refuse to embrace left-wing populism -- Rubio is being cynical and opportunist here, for sure, but Democrats have opened the door for this
The railways & workers should go back & negotiate a deal that the workers,not just the union bosses,will accept
But if Congress is forced to do it,I will not vote to impose a deal that doesn’t have the support of the rail workers
Never forget, December 5, 2019, Teamster Frank Ordoñez was gunned down in a blaze of 200+ rounds fired by police officers who are still on the job today.
Integrity is key in bargaining. And hard bargaining shouldn’t be mistaken for anything other than what it is. The union wants a deal and has been really clear about that.
UAW President Shawn Fain, in Lansing, tells
@LindsayVanHulle
he got an email from Stellantis "roughly 3 minutes before we were going live" at 10 a.m. with an updated offer, which kept them off today's strike list.

“Three in four Americans also side with the United Auto Workers in their negotiations with U.S. auto companies, as workers’ representatives demand significantly higher pay and benefits as well as a shorter workweek for their members.”

Maintaining an illegal occupation is extremely dangerous. Israel has never been safe for Jews. Not just because of those they occupy - Jews are also being killed by Israel in the process. Israel is also violently repressive Jewish dissent.
Compare Moorish Spain for 700 years.

for its negotiations with Volkswagen in the same room where just five months ago we watched the votes being counted.

If any of this constitutes a ULP (which I am not suggesting is the case) folks can file a charge. The NLRB doesn’t really investigate conduct unless someone files a charge. Anyone can file a charge (you don’t have to work there).
NLRB mentions won’t work
Some intrepid journalist should try to figure out how much money the New York Times spent dragging out the inevitable, crushing union victory of
