Back in 2013 Warnie invited us to dinner at his apartment in Perth. The fact that we had our then-6-month-old son with us didn't matter to him. "He can sleep in his carrycot in the bedroom and I'll check on him for you" was his suggestion. Which he did. That summed him up.

In the absence of any 'real' cricket, we are going to simulate the first Test at Galle in real time session by session. Both teams announced their playing XIs a day early. Kusal Janith Perera hadn't recovered from his finger injury and Sam Curran was preferred to Chris Woakes.

Ben Stokes is currently both the leading run-scorer and wicket-taker in Test cricket in 2020. The only man to achieve that feat in a complete calendar year is George Giffen, back in 1894.

The over-rate in ICC T20 WC 2009 was 14.79 overs per hour. In ICC T20 WC 2021 it was 11.55 overs per hour. In practical terms, a full 2x20 over match (plus a 10 minute interval) which would have taken 2 hours 52 minutes in 2009 would now take 3 hours 38 minutes, so 26% longer.

11: In 2016 Pi (π) Day (22/7 = 3.14) coincided with the first day of the Old Trafford Test when England ended with their score on 314. An added bonus was that Joe Root ended on 141, which is approximately the square Root of 2 (1.41).
