@MeToobirdy @TalkTervosaurus @Glinner @liziaqua88 Where are you seeing that? In the reports I’ve seen both legal teams are accurately quoted using the pronouns they wish, following the guidelines. Nowhere does the reporter directly reference Dr Upton as ‘she.’ If they had I’d agree that was an error.

The tribunal judge says each legal team can use the pronouns they wish. Nurse Peggie has used ‘he’ and Dr Upton’s team uses ‘she.’ Do you think the reporter should intentionally misquote one side?

She’s not being ‘forced’ to use other pronouns. Dr Upton’s lawyers can use ‘she’ and in reported speech the journalist should report their words accurately too.

The tribunal has given guidance on this and the reporter is adhering to it. You might think the guidance (allowing each side to set their pronouns) is flawed but that isn’t for the reporter to decide.

@MeToobirdy @TalkTervosaurus @Glinner @liziaqua88 There’s nothing I’ve seen in the BBC’s reporting that’s untruthful. I sense you’d only be happy if Dr Upton was referred to as ‘he’ every time. But the tribunal has ruled that both nurse Peggie and Dr Upton can use the pronouns they choose, so the reporting should reflect this.
