70 years ago today, former Beechen Cliff student Sir Roger Bannister became the first person to run a mile in under four minutes, a target that existed purely in the realms of the fantastical until, on that blustery Oxford day in 1954, he subverted the possible.

Amazing scenes at Beechen in glorious sunshine. Our u/14’s have made it to the
@SchoolsFootball
National Cup Final after overcoming a good

5-3 on penalties after a competitive 1-1 draw.
Beechen Cliff Design and Technology Faculty have produced 100 visors to distribute to healthcare workers. Thank you to Mr Bakker and the designers.

Headmaster, Andrew Davies, explains the context of the recent disappointing Ofsted Report following seven years as an 'Outstanding' school and last year's academic results being best the school has recorded.
Ofsted describes Beechen Cliff’s work on mental health as ‘remarkable’. Our latest boarding Ofsted inspection report can be found on the school website. We are very pleased that our work around equalities, mental health and creating a safeguarding culture are recognised.

Despite last year’s “annus horribilis”, we are delighted that Beechen Cliff still has the confidence of so many parents. Year 7 1st choice applications are yet again significantly above the number of places available. For the Sixth Form – 340 applications for 230 places.
A few headlines. Over 75% of grades achieved at A*-C, 30% at A*/A. Ten students won places at Oxbridge or for medicine. We are very proud of all of our students and the efforts they have made.
Well done to our five former Beechen Cliff boys, playing in the Bath team which played against Worcester Warriors earlier this week. You make us all feel very proud.

Another really strong year for GCSE results
@BeechenCliff
. Some outstanding individual results - as one of the boys said with a wry smile "Not bad for an inadequate school, sir"! Initial indications suggest that boys' attainment ranks with the best.
Many smiling faces amongst the Upper Sixth as they collect their results. More than 90% taking up first choices and all Medicine and Oxbridge offers confirmed. Well done to all for the hard work. Good luck!
Our Welsh base at Tir y Cwm, the place where our Year 7 boys would normally have enjoyed their induction to outdoor education. We still aim to give you the chance in this academic year. It is a special experience, enjoyed by generations of Beechen Cliff boys.
Mr Davies thanking all pupils and staff for their contributions to all aspects of school life in what has been a difficult year at Beechen Cliff. Whilst proud members of this exceptional school - there are some areas in which we need to do better. Summer school starts next week.
Congratulations to three of our pupils, called up to the England Under 16 football squad and into the Spain senior Rugby Squad. We might need to produce a new board soon...
Observing a minute’s silence to recognise the sacrifice made by frontline workers in the fight against coronavirus. Thank you to all of them from all of us.
Beechen Cliff at 50. Another classic from the archive. An eleven year old Tom de Glanville successfully converting and showing his class some years before joining

.
The flags are being aired and prepared for the big return in September. Looking forward to greeting our new arrivals in the Lower Sixth and Year Seven.
What a wonderful afternoon to start the Year 7 rugby training. You have some amazing role models to inspire you from
@bathrugby
. Enjoy the start of your Beechen Cliff rugby experience.
Three of six former Beechen Cliff pupils who played for the Bath first team against Exeter Chiefs on Saturday. We are very proud of them!

Year 8 won the Somerset Cricket Cup Final today. We beat

Beechen Cliff U15 Vase Champions at Twickenham. Huge congratulations for a 36-14 win against worthy competitors
@KenilworthSch
. A match played with great spirit by all involved.

STATEMENT TO PARENTS AND COMMUNITY: You may have read reports in the press over the weekend relating to the future of the school. The future of Beechen Cliff is not in question. Please follow the link to see our full statement:
@bathlive
Many smiles and much deserved praise for the excellent results received by our Year 11 boys today. They worked hard and hopefully feel ready for their next steps.
Congratulations to Oliver and Edward who have both been awarded a prestigious Arkwright Scholarship. This is the most esteemed scholarship of its type in the UK, designed to inspire students to pursue their dreams and change the world as a future leader in engineering.
Goodbye on this last day for this fabulous group of Upper Sixth Form students. They will be greatly missed! We wish them all the very best for their exams and life beyond Beechen Cliff.
@BeechenSixth
@BeechenCliff
has its first 2019 Centurions. Congratualtions Andrew Wedding and Joe Milton. Touched the door at 10.30am. 80 walkers still heading to school.

In case you missed it - another excellent set of A Level results from
@BeechenCliff
sixth form students - progress above national expectations. Well done to all.
Wonderful to see the extra- curricular life of the school returning and bringing us back to life after so many months. Rugby training and Duke of Edinburgh activities this weekend, full cricket and tennis fixtures next week.
At long last!
Very best wishes to our Upper Sixth students as they prepare for the next step in their lives. You have had to contend with a difficult year in many ways and you clearly deserve the chance to shine. Good luck in the future.
Well done to all the fabulous state schools in BaNES for continuing to give so many of the region's young people opportunities to study at top universities.
Very proud of our GCSE boys. They have achieved great success; 82% awarded both English and Maths at higher grade passes, 52% the EBacc qualification. Well done to all pupils, parents and staff for their commitment to the cause.
Wow!! The u/16 football team join the u/13’s in the last 8 of the
@SchoolsFootball
cup after a thrilling 2-1 win away to Devonport High School. Brilliant performances from both teams!!
School league tables do not recognise our iGCSE English qualification (the same done by top independent schools). The tables assume none of our students achieved an English GCSE! This is our actual position. For boys only - we would be close to the best - if not THE best!
Many congratulations to Toby, one of our A Level Politics students, on the publication of his article on How to fix British Politics’ in the latest online West England Bylines.
To commemorate Pete McKissock's (former Head of PE) 80th birthday, it's a nostalgic Friday....1987 County Cricket Champions with a team including Andrew Clutterbuck (Lincoln) and Paul Tisdale (former professional footballer and Manager of Exeter City!)

Our commitment to ensure we could get our son into
@BeechenCliff
was so worth the effort - the school is outstanding in pastoral care, the classroom, on the sports fields and with the incredible opportunities that are offered in and outside the school.
Incredible Open Evening at Beechen Cliff. A record- breaking near-capacity audience in the Sports Hall for Mr Davies' address. Thank you to all prospective parents for the great feedback about the evening and the Year 7, Year 8 and sixth form guides.
Thank you to all involved in the Year 7 Welcome Service this afternoon at St Luke's Church - formally welcoming the new boys into the Beechen Cliff community. All boys received their Charter outlining the values of the school - aspiration, compassion, independence and balance.
It was wonderful to see our Year 11 boys again today, following the ‘covid break’. We were all pleased to be able to share a little time with you and to wish you well as you move to the next level of your education. Good luck to you all.
A thriller of a game! U/14’s 5-0 up in
@SchoolsFootball
National cup only for
@IvybridgeCollPE
to come back to 5-5 until we snatched it 6-5 with a far post header in the last minute! Unbelievable scenes! Into the last 16.

A great spectacle - Charity football match between our finest rugby squad and First team select XI. Over £1400 raised for the Ukraine appeal. Great effort!
