โžก How to implement new asset recovery laws effectively? ๐Ÿ—ฃ One crucial aspect is to allow specialised prosecutors to share experiences and discuss how to harmonise practice across a jurisdiction. ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ช That's the purpose of this national meeting of prosecutors specialised in Extinciรณn de dominio, Peru's non-conviction based forfeiture law. ๐Ÿ—“ The event was organised by our @Programa_GFP with the support of @SECO_CH as part of our long-term assistance in implementing the law and recovering assets for the benefit of the Peruvian people. ๐Ÿ’ฌ In the words of Paul Garnier, @EmbSuizaPeru, "the recovery of embezzled public assets is one of the most important issues in the political and economic agendas of the countries in the region". โœ… And these are the kinds of events and interventions that help countries to do that. ๐Ÿ‘ Congratulations to the whole team including @SolorzanoOso, Carlos Vegas, Sergio Jimรฉnez, Elma Vergara Cabrera,ย Peru's National Coordination Office for Specialised Prosecutors in Extinciรณn de dominio, and to the prosecutors who attended the conference and shared their experiences with their peers. ๐Ÿ“น

โ“ When multinational companies pay a fine for foreign bribery or other misconduct to avoid a trial... what happens to the victims? Who *are* the victims? Do they receive compensation, or are they overlooked entirely? Complex and contested questions like these are bread and butter for Fellows of @TheAcademyBrass, which recently released a working paper on the role of victims in non-trial resolutions of financial crimes. Join our star line-up of legal experts for a deep dive: ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ @LincCaylor, Bennett Jones ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท @sbonifassi, BONIFASSI Avocats ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ @KEWoody, @wlulaw ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ช @SolorzanoOso, @BaselInstitute ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ญ Thomas Weibel, @VISCHER_Law The webinar will be moderated by our Senior Asset Recovery Specialist Joe Spicer, with closing remarks by @ECOStrats. ๐Ÿ“… 29 August โฐ 15:00 CEST, 09:00 EDT ๐Ÿ”—

โš–๏ธ "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." At the Basel Institute, we recognise that corruption prevention is a crucial complement to our enforcement efforts. ๐ŸŒ Our Green Corruption team works closely with partners who are committed to the challenging task of shifting the narrative on corruption and transforming systems and mindsets. ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ผ In Malawi, the team has worked alongside the @ACBMalawi to support the @DNPWMalawi, @ForestryMalawi and @malawi_police in strengthening internal controls. ๐Ÿ”‘ A key step in this process has been raising awareness about codes of ethics. The video below exemplifies this work โ€“ it is already reaching rangers across all parks in the beautiful Malawi. Take a look! ๐Ÿ‘€ This project was delivered thanks to funding from ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง @UKBCFs and @DefraGovUK. @cabrejoleroux @juhanigrossmann
