In a stark reminder of what really matters in life, Big Foot and Edgerton players, along with fans gather to honor young Jordan Faust, a 3-year-old Edgerton boy who is battling cancer.
Craig seniors from left to right Dan Blomgren, Ryan Herbst, Jacob Hesseling, Micah Overley and Mitchell Woelfle signed their letter of intents Friday for the schools below them to play baseball.
Craig’s Mya Nicholson became the first Janesville female golfer to win a Big Eight title in 2021. She just doubled her pleasure in 2022, winning a second straight title with a 3-over 75 at Evansville Golf Club.
Janesville Craig junior Mya Nicholson with a blistering 3-under par 69 to win the Milton Invitational. To put things bluntly, Nicholson is just too ridiculously long off the tee for the majority of courses she plays.
Stands filling up for Platteville vs Edgerton at Oregon. $60 million dollars well spent. Wow! What a facility. People of Milton need to see this place.
This is a first for me in 30 years of covering high school sports. Tonight is Teacher Appreciation Night at Edgerton. Each girl on the team is being escorted to center court by their favorite teacher. Kinda cool.
If the fact that Michigan was playing in the College World Series finale and had six players from Wisconsin on the roster doesn't make Alvarez see the light, nothing will.
In one of the most impressive stats I can remember in 30-plus years of covering high school basketball, Janesville Craig’s Mya Nicholson is 86 for 93 at the free throw line this season. Incredible!
Alexis Mauermann about to join older brother Ross as a DI national hockey champion. Gotta believe the last sister/brother to both win a national title were Phil and Amanda Kessel. Pretty good company for the Mauermanns.
Good for Jeff Boos and the Sun Prairie Cardinals. All that adversity they went through, and here they are playing for a state title tomorrow night. Kudos!
My stepson is finally being escorted out by police at the Molson Coors campus. Thankful he’s OK and praying for the victims and their families. So sad.
Shout out to Jacob Campbell and his selection in the 36th round of the MLB draft by the Chicago Cubs. Don't read too much into this and ask why he fell out of a top 10 selection? Way too much goes on behind the scenes. There was never any denying his talent.

That pass was completed 4 yards past the line of scrimmage. Did you not see the replay? It’s not even close to the line of scrimmage. It’s blatant OPI.
Yes, the Janesville Gazette will still have a daily sports section. Get ready for top-notch journalism on Senior bowling leagues, online Texas Hold-em tournaments and a million Where Are They Now stories.
Parker’s JJ Douglas with a monster 24-point, 27 rebound performance in the Vikes’ 59-50 win over Sun Prairie East. He is a man among boys on the glass.
Two of the greatest players in state history sharing a few laughs before Verona and Parker. Angie Hableib and Jennah Burkholder. Burkholder—1993 State player at Parker—beat Hableib’s Middleton team for state title. Biggest crowd in state tourney history at the Field House!
Jack Blomgren and Michigan headed to College World Series. Pretty sure last Janesville player to appear in CWS was my 1982 Parker High classmate Mike Lexa with Indiana State in 1986.
Big shout out to Janesville Craig sophomore Mya Nicholson, who wins the Parker Invitational at Riverside with a school-record 2-under 69. And golf’s not even her best sport. 😁
Shout out to my alma mater, Janesville Parker. Big win tonight thanks to an ultra-clutch performance by Ethan Thompson. A win tomorrow and it’s a sectional berth for the first time since 1982.

Absolutely ridiculous! The winter sports season is wrapping up with girls and boys basketball, and despite some hiccups, it was a success. Let the kids play!
Sam Van Galder wins his record-tying ninth Janesville Men’s City golf title by two shots over his former No. 1 player at Janesville Parker, Matt Zimmerman.
As a senior at Janesville Parker in 1982, I was offered $100,000 to play basketball at The University of North Carolina. I turned it down to instead play intramural ball at The University of Wisconsin.
Sam Van Galder wins his seventh Janesville Men’s City golf championship with a par on the third playoff hole. Valiant effort by Brian Angileri in finishing second.
I’m convinced if you’re under the age of 15, it’s physically impossible to go to a high school basketball game and not go to the concession stand 9 times during the game.
Parker 54, Horlick 44. Great win for the Vikes! Snaps a 19-game losing streak and sends Parker into a Friday night regional semifinal game at top-seeded Kettle Moraine.
Whitewater at Edgerton in a Rock Valley game. New turf field—helped funded by Edgerton grads Derek Carrier and Steve Stricker—is money well spent. Take notice Janesville. It can be done!
Evansville’s Owen Heiser joins his little brother Danny as a state champion—winning at 170 pounds. The Heiser living room must’ve been something with those two growing up in the house. 😁
Catholic Memorial sliding down to Division 4 is not going to sit well with a lot of coaches around the state. They play in the best conference in the state against mainly Division 1 schools but are placed in Division 4 because of some shady enrollment numbers. Not a good look.
Janesville Craig’s highly-touted baseball team opens the season with a 33-3 win over Oregon. Jake Schaffner goes 6-for-6 with 5 runs scored and 8 RBI. Not a bad start. 😁
Kudos to the Janesville School Board for doing the right thing and paying 50 percent of spring coaches salary. Deserved more, but it’s better than nothing.
JJ Douglas races 87 yards for a touchdown. 23-7 Parker with 8:26 left. Douglas can simply do it all. Led the state in receiving last week. Over 100 yards rushing and two TDs this week.
The O’Leary brothers—who many consider the greatest athletes to come out of UW-Whitewater—join the show today at 3:15. Should be fun as we solve the world’s problems.
Signing day at Parker. Congrats to Jordan Bailey (Bradley-baseball) Alexis Fenrick (Winona State-track), Chris Galvan (Roosevelt-basketball) and Matt Zimmerman (Viterbo-golf)
Cayden Brandenburg’s 342 yards rushing today are second in the history of Parker football. Adam Vesterfelt had 372 against Madison La Follette in 2010.
