Today 7th February, 2025 I had the honor to address the esteemed gathering at the Pan-African Agency for the Great Green Wall at the Ministerial Segment which is holding in Dakar, Senegal. The Great Green Wall initiative symbolizes Africa's commitment to combat desertification, restore degraded lands, and enhance climate resilience. We face significant challenges, including desert encroachment and food insecurity, which require urgent and innovative solutions. Through the PAGGW, we aim for environmental sustainability and climate justice for millions in the Sahel. Nigeria is dedicated to the success of the Great Green Wall. Our National Agency for the Great Green Wall (NAGGW) leads afforestation projects and promotes sustainable land management. Since its establishment in 2015, NAGGW has produced over 37 million tree seedlings and reclaimed more than 12,500 hectares of degraded land in Nigeria's frontline states. We continue to invest in irrigation infrastructure and climate adaptation strategies. #GreenNigeria 🌳

Yesterday, at the High-Level Stakeholders’ Engagement in Abuja, I had the honor of unveiling Nigeria’s first-ever Strategic Catchment Management Plans (SCMP)—a groundbreaking framework for sustainable watershed management. This initiative, a cornerstone of the @ACReSALNigeria Project, represents a collaborative effort involving government agencies, development partners, civil society and community stakeholders. The plans align with Nigeria's eight hydrological areas, transcending political boundaries to prioritize environmental and economic sustainability. We are developing 20 Strategic Catchment Plans to serve as a blueprint for 200 micro-catchment plans across 19 states and the FCT. Our immediate focus is on 6 riparian catchments spanning 10 states, with plans to expand nationwide. I am thankful to His Excellency, President @officialABAT, the @WorldBank and the Governors of the ACReSAL States for enabling this historic milestone. #GreenNigeria 🌳
