In the interest of safety, we have installed wire medians on portions of the Bakwena N1N4 route. This stops motorists from making illegal u-turns and overtaking into oncoming traffic.
We are expecting busy conditions along the N1 north from noon on Thursday until Friday afternoon as ZCC Congregants make their way to Moria, Limpopo. Remember to always buckle up, stick to the speed limit and exercise patience. Keep up with route updates here.

If you are travelling for the long weekend make sure that you plan your journey. Know the route you are going to take and where to stop for fuel along the way. Try and avoid travelling in peak traffic periods.

Bakwena & local authorities are aware of these incidents. Bakwena is not a law enforcement agency however works closely with the local authorities who are investigating the matter. Bakwena’s patrollers patrol 24/7 & do remove rocks/spikes when they come across them.

This month our focus is on the youth of our country and what we can do to protect them and prepare them for the future. At Bakwena we work with volunteers from the communities along our routes to ensure scholars can get to school safely and understand road safety.

Bakwena operates the N1 between Pretoria & Bela Bela and the N4 from Pretoria to the Botswana border. Our route patrollers are always on duty and will assist you in the case of an emergency. It's a good idea to have this number saved to your phone if you are traveling our route.
If you're on the road today we urge you to do what you can for you and your passengers safety. Buckle up, stick to the speed limit and remember to take a break every 2hrs or 200kms. Above all, wash and sanitize your hands often and avoid human contact if possible.
Alcohol can stay in your system until 6 hours after you have stopped drinking. The more you drink, the higher your blood alcohol limit will be and the longer it will take for you to sober up sufficiently to drive.

The upgrades along the N4 Bakwena route are on track. Continuous maintenance, rehabilitation and upgrades are necessary to ensure the N1N4 route meets the highest international standards for toll road paying motorists.
