Hati, when abatemba ndegye (abeinika clan) arrived omu bajjungu, they kept greeting them, nigahe(Hello), which sounded cool, so the africans living there also started saying the same word to look cool, hence the phrase, ‘Nigga hey!’ Haza Mutahakana! #RukundoEgumeho

A beautiful tale of our beloved Bishops & brief history of Kigezi Diocese by Ndugu @j_mucunguzi A beautiful photo of five living great men that have served as Bishops in the Diocese of Kigezi and kept the spirit of spiritual revival alive. From left to right: Bishop William Rukirande, served as Bishop from 1988-1997, after the death of the second Bishop, Festo Kivengere, who served from 1972 up to his death in 1988. He is now in his 90s. Next to him is Bishop George Katwesigye who served from 1998-2013. The third from the left, and in a jacket, is Bishop Enock Kayeeye. Although hailing from Kigezi and serving in the Diocese in different roles, Kayeeye did not become Bishop of Kigezi, instead he served across the border in DRC as Bishop. The fourth man is Bishop George Bagamuhunda who served from 2014- to May 2022). A man from Nangara, a remote village in the hills of Kigezi, Bishop George, a water engineer, first served for many years in the water department, extending water and sanitation services to many remote villages, before becoming Bishop. The last person on the right is the current Bishop, Gaddie Akanjuna who was consecrated in June 2022 . The Diocese of Kigezi was born in 1967, curved out of the then Ankole Kigezi Diocese, and has since then born three other Dioceses of North Kigezi (1981), Muhabura Diocese (1990), and Kinkiizi Diocese (1995). The first Bishop of Kigezi was Rt Rev. Richard Lyth (1967-1972). The Diocese has 17 Archdeaconries, 102 Parishes, and 417 Local Churches. It also has 25 Chaplaincies that are vibrantly raising children and students in schools and colleges. The recent (2023) internal Diocesan Census put the total population at serves at 300,000 people. The Diocese covers the 3 Districts of Kabale, Rukiga, and Rubanda, and the Diocesan Headquarters (Diocesan Offices and Cathedral) are located at Rugarama Hill in the Centre of Kabale Town. #RukundoEgumeho
