If you were in doubt that MS is tough on the body - the 3 players who played the most minutes during the first 2 weeks of the "European Tour" (Thomas Cup and Denmark Open) all ended up retiring with injury/fatigue.

No doubt Alfian/Ardianto has been the most consistent MD pair of 2022, looking odds on to finish the year as no. 1 The only thing they are "missing" is a S1000+ title, with Denmark Open (S750) being their highest rated - perhaps at the season finals?

The big revelation at #FrenchOpen2019 was of course An Se Young, winning her first Super500+ tournament and becoming the second-youngest player to win a Super Series (equivalent) tournament. Top-10 youngest SS winners listed below - extremely impressive company she has joined!

You don't get a medal for predicting this match going to 3 sets - of all the MS players on the World Tour, Chou and Lee had the highest rate of 3-set matches in 2022 (minimum 15 matches played)

At 35 years old today (happy birthday) Hendra Setiawan would become the oldest world champion this decade by quite a wide margin if he were to win. The 10 oldest players to win the WC since 2010:

Gideon/Sukamuljo had a 15-match win streak snapped with their loss today, ending the 2nd longest winning streak of 2019, only bested by Zheng/Huang's 18.

To put it in perspective - literally last night I was working on the scores for All England 1981(!), where she also competed (with her maiden name, Beliasova), and then she goes and wins a WC match today... 😯 Honestly had to double check the scores this morning when I got up 😂

Today was the least competitive day in the history of the Superseries/World Tour finals, with just a single match going to 3 sets, and the losers scoring less than 30 points on average. Is fatigue (once again) hurting the players?

This will probably get lost in the World Championship hype, but today marks the 100th consecutive week that Gideon/Sukamuljo are ranked number 1. The minions become the 4th player/pair to accomplish this feat.

@JukkaAntila You're absolutely right, that's me not expressing myself correctly. I was interested in the 3 consecutive weeks of play (after all, there was little week's worth of rest between Sudirman and Thomas/Uber). The numbers get even more insane if you include Sudirman 🙂

Despite his winning streak being ended at 28 last week Kento Momota is still in with a good shot at eclipsing his own mark of 67 match wins on the World Tour in a calendar year, which he set last year. He is currently sitting at 57.

Momota had an unexpectedly tough time today at the #FrenchOpenSuper750 , but still managed to win his 27th straight match. Since he's getting up towards the top, I thought it was time to do a list of the longest winning streaks (since 2006):

What a great final day at the #indonesiaopen2019 . With the conclusion of the tournament, here are the overall stats for the whole week, with just short of 7,500 minutes and 15,000 points of badminton played. MS took the prize for longest avg matches and XD for the shortest.

Who else is excited for the season finals? Kamilla Rytter Juhl currently holds the record with 10 appearances, a record that will stand for at least another couple of years, with Ratchanok, Tai and Setiawan all reaching 8 this year.
