It is not the size of the state but the misapplication of the state at fault. Economic liberalism has asset stripped and undermined our nation in the past as much as socialism has impoverished it There are many areas of Government over reach such as the criminalisation of offence, but there are also many areas of Government inaction like the slow death of British steel.

Made friends with a feline Tory voter on the doorstep who was concerned about suggestions of an SNP cat ban 😾
🚨Terrific Tory team out in Kirkintilloch today for our excellent council by-election candidate Dr Satbir Gill. 🗳️For local action on local issues, please vote ‘1’ for Satbir on Thursday, Feb 13th.

That is not true. No new nuclear power stations were approved or built or funded or committed to under new labour as per Labours 1997 manifesto: "We see no economic case for the building of any new nuclear power stations" Yes the Conservatives should have moved faster (largely hamstrung by the LibDems until 2015 and too sluggish on SMRs in the later years) but compared to New Labour they moved like Bolt Details👇 The furthest Labour got was a consultation and a white paper which was subsequently withdrawn after loosing a high court battle to Greenpeace in 2007. As PM in 2008 Brown then made a speech about building eight new nuclear plants but didnt approve construction on any of them. In 2009 Ed Millerband (as energy sec) announced six "draft national policy statements", these were not approvals nor funding deals nor planning permissions nor commitments but vague statements of intent, of the six only two (HPC and SWC) were sent to the planning commission to begin consideration, and that wasn't until March 2010. To summarise: no new nuclear plans were approved, nor constructed, nor funded nor commited to under 13 years of new Labour. It took until March of 2010 for the planning commission to even consider any new sites let alone grant government approval for one
