A dark time for Latinos in the U.S. and in Puerto Rico. Citizenship will not save us and statehood would not save us from being targeted in a country that's hostile to us. For freedom from Trumpism and from colonialism, Puerto Rico needs independence!

"With emboldened electoral support, now is the time for supporters of Puerto Rican independence to mobilise in their communities, organise against the impact of neo-colonialism, and win the argument for Puerto Rican sovereignty." Thank you @GeorgeAylett!

The Trump administration has already proven disastrous for Puerto Rico. As a colony, we are powerless to stop it. Our message is loud and clear: the only thing that can save our nation from Trumpism and from colonialism is independence. Our statement:

American citizenship will not save us. Living in a state will not save us. Puerto Ricans will always be targeted alongside our other Latino brothers and sisters. And if Puerto Rico ever became a state, we would be targeted in our own homeland.

It's unbelievable—but unsurprising—to see American leaders openly promote annexationism in major publications. It's time for Americans to decide how they feel about imperialism. And if it's bad for Canada or Greenland, surely it's bad for Puerto Rico.

It's great to see @cpipr, probably the most respected news organization in Puerto Rico, reporting on the Puerto Rican diaspora. This is the future: seeing ourselves as one people—and taking political action together in Puerto Rico and in the United States!

Thanks to @cpipr for their work on #Philly's 🇵🇷 community and health disparities. That's my Dad on the cover. I am quoted as well as @AdrianRiveraPhD, @CharitoGuaja and others. RIP Mom, who spent much of her career helping people access services:
