With Gray signing we add our 6th LHP for the summer! However, he is a rare & very effective submarine LHP. In 50.1 IP he gave up only 2 XBH, averaged 10.96 K's per 9 innings & opponents batted just .236 against him with 5 W's & 3 Saves. He also has a GREAT mustache.

2024 pitch usage of the top D1 teams in ERA:
📊 On average they used:
-Just 7% CBs!
-Over 3X more SLs!
Why?
CB = lowest batter swing% AND lowest strike% of any pitch type.
Once you leave HS and face better hitters, your slow CB isn’t as effective as it used to be so adjust.
IMO most pitchers should learn a slider before a curveball.
✅ Higher velo
✅ Easier to command
✅ Less wrist or hand manipulation
There are always exceptions, but I see too many high school pitchers with slow, loopy curveballs.
And not enough hard, short sliders.
