A mainstay of the Ugandan regime, the army is also allegedly profiting from TotalEnergies' #EACOP / Tilenga oil megaproject through its own commercial branch, a @Mediapart investigation reveals. FIDH was interviewed about the tense human rights context of the projects ⬇️
Pilier du régime ougandais, l’armée tirerait également profit du mégaprojet pétrolier #EACOP-Tilenga de TotalEnergies à travers sa propre branche commerciale, d'après une enquête de @MickaCorreia et @ThomasBart60 pour @Mediapart. 👇 Dans son dernier rapport sur les récents impacts de ces projets sur les droits humains des communautés locales, la FIDH documente que les forces de sécurité ougandaises -- progressivement deployées pour protéger les sites pétroliers -- ont commis les violations des droits les plus graves: expulsions forcées répétées, extorsion et violences sexuelles... Interrogée par Mediapart, la FIDH rappelle que si TotalEnergies établit une relation commerciale avec des entités impliquées dans ces violations, elle se met à risque d'y contribuer.

Eron Kiiza is an advocate of human rights & environmental protection in Uganda. He has also represented numerous activists detained for their opposition to the #EACOP oil project. Through @OBS_defenders, we urge the authorities to immediately release him & quash his conviction.
