My thoughts: what are the challenges facing Magic: the Gathering today? Attracting new players: we are confusing new players with expanding rule sets, high $ barrier to entry, and metagame deckbuilding. I have my opinion on one thing we could do (see the link on my profile for BDE), but I'm sure there are other methods, does anyone have other thoughts? Innovation: Keeping the game fresh while respecting its roots; balancing the new IP with the old. Splicing in Pop Culture IP and hoping that it attracts new players seems like a naive strategy to me, but I haven't seen the data either way. Try not to alienate your core customers in search of hypothetical new ones, right? My background: I've played Magic since the early 2000's. No one in my playgroup has been to a sanctioned event in over 15 years. We gave up on constructed formats long ago and only play drafts or BDE. We got tired of the same old meta rat race. When we get together, we just want to play the game. I'm the customer that WotC had in the past but is now disengaged. I acknowledge that I don't represent today's competitive player, but I feel that I can provide good feedback on engaging new players - or re-engaging old ones. #MagicTheGathering

@manawurmpod I agree. We've subdivided too much. I wanted to create something for the newbs, and it's practically all I've played for the past 15 years. So I do think it has something to offer. Always willing to discuss more. I'm not trying to sell anything here.

@manawurmpod But, I have found a way to cut the complexity for new players, you can read more about that in the link on my profile.
