strong belief - the surviving and fragmented sculptures from the Parthenon deserve to be reunited in the #ParthenonGallery of the #AcropolisMuseum, where they can be viewed in context and with direct views to the Parthenon #greece2021

Germany and Italy have already returned fragments from the Parthenon to Athens. Britain should do its part, out of an impulse toward restoration in the most generous sense. Hitchens, as he often did, got the tone just right: “There is still time to make the act of restitution: not extorted by pressure or complaint but freely offered as a homage to the indivisibility of art and—why not say it without embarrassment?—of justice too.” @TheAtlantic @buffsoldier_96
Today I'm in @TheAtlantic where I reviewed Christopher Hitchens' polemic on the Parthenon marbles calling for their "reunification" (reissued by @VersoBooks); an issue that has become topical recently. Includes a name drop for Assassin's Creed Odyssey 😊

here's to sense and sensibility , not least English fair play and the reunification of the #ParthenonMarbles in the Acropolis Museum, Athens, Greece
we don’t want to send them back. “we’re still some distance from any kind of agreement. So we can’t, even if we wanted to, **which we don’t**, simply kind of send them back, but we are empowered to loan objects..” George Osborne, Chair of British Museum #parthenonsculptures
