🚨OUT OF SPACE: BARCS is in a state of emergency. We have taken in 303 new animals in the past week and ended last night at negative 12 dog spaces. We’re going to be clear and keep this post short: Dogs in our shelter are at risk today. We are waiving fees immediately.
Help us raise money to save little Donut, who was found on Monday morning on the dumping floor of the city trash incinerator facility. He needs our help. Full story at
Our animals are in desperate need of blankets and comforters!
Our building is older, and the ground that our pups lay on is hard and can be uncomfortable, so we like to make sure that each and every dog has nice soft, cozy blanket to snuggle into.
SNOW DAY: Barcs is closed today, Sunday, January 13, due to inclement weather. Please check back for updates regarding our hours for Monday.
A big thank you to our snow team staff and close-by volunteers for helping us care for the animals today.

Comforters (no feather-stuffed)
Fleece blankets

Sometimes something as simple as a blanket can give a dog enough of a sense of safety and security to allow them to relax inside of their kennels. This is extremely important because we want every animal to be as comfortable as possible during their stay with us.
Effective immediately (10/12/21), BARCS is closing intake of new cats into our shelter due to a feline panleukopenia outbreak among our cat population. Intake of cats will remain suspended for at least two weeks, after which we will reevaluate the situation.
