I’m Hannah, and I’m thrilled to be your new Junior Representative for the British Association of Oral Surgeons. I’m currently a DCT3 fellow, working between Prince Charles Hospital in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Health Education Improvement Wales.   After graduating from King’s College London in 2020, I returned home to South Wales, where I completed my foundation and core training. Last year, I undertook a Welsh Clinical Leadership fellowship, where I represented trainees and worked closely with senior stakeholders to ensure their feedback was heard. Have you heard of snus? 🤔 Snus is the Swedish word for small pouches filled with powdered tobacco leaves that you put in your mouth, usually in the cheek or under the lip. It’s becoming more popular in the UK, so dentists need to be aware of their potential use when they’re assessing and treating patients! A fit and well patient attended for assessment of their lower wisdom teeth. An incidental finding of a mixed red/white patch was noticed in the buccal sulcus. On questioning, the patient disclosed the use of snus. Advice was given to stop the use of snus and a review booked. If the patch is still present on review, an incisional biopsy will be undertaken! #OralSurgery #Dentistry #BAOSUK
