@dutch1664 @Graham__Hancock Yep... it needs that ancient missing civilisation to do the business with invisible machines, invisible settlements, invisible food sources... etc. Way to downgrade the achievements of indigenous people.

@EKaretny @BrightInsight6 ah the Negev survey.. I take it you have this book. I worked in Jordan, and now down in Saudi on the Hijaz at a site twice attacked in the Great Arab revolt. I am honoured to be a Ruwallah from my times in the Black desert/.

@EKaretny @BrightInsight6 It was Brish Museum excavation. And the Hittite cite had a monumental gateway. As was normal. Read here. (PDF) The British Museum Excavations at Karkemish (1911-1914, 1920): A Summary of the Activities and of the Methods Employed

@HAL9030 Again I think this ida that the world is awash with people ( not just men ;) ) kinda misses the huge amounts of space there is . Again... its not really up for discussion that it was a successful population that used a toolkit that needed little change . it just is.

@HAL9030 If we look at it from modern eyes, then yes. If we understand that it did the job well and there was no need. Then the greater question is why change. Changes in the toolkits tell of changes to society and lifestyle. So ask the question ... why change?

@HAL9030 Follow your logic. You have a brain the same as them. And so pop out and knap me a toolkit, create a hunting net, make a basket and a skin shelter and survive and thrive without any modern tech. That's pretty epic. And you and I would die in weeks. You see?

To my dear friends and followers, it has become increasingly impossible to stomach the owner of this platform. I stuck by to help add a dose of sanity and provide UK archaeological jobs. The smell of this cesspool is now too great. See you here I hope @bajr-badger.bsky.social

@HAL9030 So - in short. The Acheulian tools, did the job - and they did it well. They are complex items, and I am sure you could not make them, not really chipping rock, much more than that. It all comes down to need, learning from others, and additional innovation.
