@AsadFromNYC @ZareenaGrewal Expecting massacres from a group that has a history of sectarian genocidal tendencies is a little more realistic than imagining they might be channeling the spirit of Salaheddin

@never_oppressed I am exercising expertise about the comparative prison systems and repressive policies of the Shah vs the Assad dynasty, which you argued were 'approximate,' while in fact they are not at all. Argument not valid. That's really the end of it.

@never_oppressed Then I'm afraid you know very little about Syria. Not remotely comparable. I mean seriously, Hama? The town that ceased to exist because the whole population was exterminated? Total number of Syrians disappeared and murdered? You're simply wrong here.

@never_oppressed Happy to buy you a drink, but the comparison is simply bizarre, not factual, and as a result, distressing. We need to be able to analyse our history more fairly and dispassionately in order to progress.

@never_oppressed No one who works seriously on both countries would ever claim that, re: repression, given factual record. The cityscapes of every major Iranian city were dotted with cranes after the revolution because of the scale of development projects. Again, yr view is not factual.

@never_oppressed The scale and nature of repression is not remotely comparable. And Assad's was a meritless vampire regime that destroyed Syria, while the Shah built and developed modern Iran.

@never_oppressed To compare the Pahlavi system with the Assad dynasty is really sick and ahistorical.

@lisang The thought stands, and it's not all personal, it's about the editorial choice to publish something like this right now.
