I had a meeting with a parent last week, he's pure Malay and his son is in my Malay Language class.
Can his son speak Malay fluently? Not at all.
He was rather embarrassed when he told me the medium of instruction for all three generations at home is only English.

The majority of Malay youths these days can't speak BM properly. Kalau terpaksa berbahas, berterabur.

My Grab driver told me he made around RM1500 in just three days since new year's eve. He drove all the way from Johor but the trip is worth it because he only spent RM60 for petrol and toll, RM10 pernight to rent a room to sleep at his friend's.
