You know what the biggest problem with pushing all-things-AI is? Wrong direction.
I want AI to do my laundry and dishes so that I can do art and writing, not for AI to do my art and writing so that I can do my laundry and dishes.

It's about wishing that AI focused on taking away those tasks we hate (doing taxes, anyone?) and don't enjoy instead of trying to take away what we love to do and what makes us human.

When you use a brush, be it traditional or digital, you hold and control the brush.
When you use AI, you tell a machine to hold a brush. You do nothing. Your creativity is limited to typing words.
If you commission artwork, you aren't the artist. You just commissioned it from AI.

Almost everyone can draw and write. We acquire those skills in a primary school. You get better at something by putting time and effort in. I learned to write in English as a 2nd language.

It wasn't the point of the post. The point was that AI is being created to take over tasks that people enjoy leaving them with the ones they don't, instead of doing the opposite.
If you need another example, I'd rather have an AI do my bookkeeping and taxes than art & writing.

When somebody says their books are "fantasy fiction", I can't help wondering whether there is fantasy non-fiction.
I suppose it'd be books like "How to Stop Goblin Infestation in Your Cellar", "Grooming Unicorns for Beginners", or "5 Ways to Grow Your Confidence as a Void Mage."

When I see authors saying, "I can't afford an artist, so I'll use AI covers," I want to ask if they'd be ok with their novels loaded into ChatGPT etc. for others to generate their books.
If yes, fair play. We disagree, but I can respect that.
If not, it speaks volumes about them.

Why being a small unknown author feels like a vicious circle:
On r/fantasy, someone asked for specific book recs. My Pacts Arcane and Otherwise seem a v. good match. No self-promo (fair), but as a small author, I have no readers who are there to recommend. So I will stay unknown.

All work and no video games makes Melfka finish a novel rewrite.
When I first wrote By the Pact, it was at 130k, but my beta readers still wanted more details.
So I made a decision to split the book in half and enrich the story.
As worried as I was, I'm happy how it turned out.

- Make a list of tasks.
- Choose a random task.
- Think: I don't feel like doing it.
- Procrastinate by doing another task from the list.
- Repeat until the last one.
- Force yourself to do the last task. You can do ONE thing, right?
