Pete
2005-2022
Yesterday Pete had a sausage biscuit; spent a day in the sunshine with his brothers; got lots of love; and ate roast chicken for dinner. He died suddenly less than an hour later in his Daddy’s arms. He was 17.
I think the best tribute is just one word:
PETE!
❤️
Dear friends of Pete: I never imagined how much love would be sent in honor of Pete’s 17th birthday. It has been so much fun, and so seriously moving to see so many people and pets come together to celebrate a sweet old dog. Thank you, with a full heart. Say it together: Pete!!!
We wake up this morning to a new world. There’s a hole in our hearts, but there are still hamburgers to eat, tummies to rub, balls to chase, and a certain novel to write.
@SykesCharlie
and I are overwhelmed by the outpouring of grief and love sent for Pete. Thank you.
Dear friends of Auggie: Our guy has a massive internal growth that presents major complications. He is in the hospital since last night. Please pray for him and for us.
Dear Friends of Pete:
Some of you have kindly asked if we have a local shelter you could donate to in Pete’s name. If you would like to, it might be more fun to choose your own favorite, so that shelters in many places might benefit in Pete’s name. He would have liked that.
It’s been a long day. Just chatted with clinic, and Pete’s sleeping peqcefully. Thank you to all of you for your moral support and your love for our old guy. I wish he could give each of you a kiss.
Good night.
I cried when I opened this. It is the first of a number of beautiful pieces of art sent to us in memory of Pete. I will be sharing them with you one at a time.
Thank you so much

Pete is having some outpatient surgery today to remove the lump that has been giving him so many problems. Instead of thoughts and prayers, Pete would much prefer chicken.
Auggie is officially out of the woods. He’s home and starting his recovery! Thank you to St. Francis and St. Augustine, and to all of you for your prayers and good wishes. They clearly did the trick. ❤️❤️❤️
Twitter friends: I love you all, and have been touched by your love and kindness over these past few years. Auggie and Eli send their love. Hoping Twitter survives to maintain this beautiful community.
Today we are celebrating Pete’s sixteenth birthday! We chose Jan. 10th, but aren’t sure of the exact date. When we adopted him in October he was about ten months old. We will have old photos, and dog birthday cake and beef tenderloin to celebrate. Say it with me: Pete!

A shelter in WV walked dogs in the Christmas parade. During the parade, a young woman was having an anxiety attack. Picasso, one of the dogs, went to her like he knew she needed help. He stood nose to nose with her just holding her up. Today, her family adopted Picasso. ❤️🥰
